Pasture Raised vs. Stand Eggs

So we generally have gotten pasture raised eggs instead of the standard store brand eggs. But I was shopping on Friday AM and store eggs were $3.19 vs. $7 for the fancy eggs. So I bought the store brand.

Man, was I in for it when the Mrs. came home. I am NOT to every buy those again because of how mistreated the hens are.

OK, OK - I'll buy the pricey eggs to keep her happy. But how different are they? Is it possible they're the same exact eggs, raised in the same exact way, but just put in fancier packaging and doubled in price? Much like "organic", there is no standard of what "pasture raised" means.

Tell your wife they are dumb chickens with a brain the size of your thumb. They don't know or care how they are being treated.

The quality of eggs from Vital Farms and similar is WAY better than the bargain eggs.

Wow!! Talk about hen pecked. If she wants the fancy eggs, she can buy the fancy eggs. No one is making her eat them.

Check for local farmers and Co-ops in your area. I have been getting free range brown eggs $10.50 for 30.

Yolks are a little too orange for my Aggie liking; but they do make a fine omelet.

Save virtue signaling egg carton. Buy cheap eggs, swap out.

Nobody can tell.

Pocket $ for high maintenance woman fund.

If you aren't raising your own chickens for eggs, buy Eggland's Best

No matter the cost.

Gonna need to order a stamp to put new expiration dates on that carton periodically.

If you're going to be clever, you rotate the boxes out now and then for a different brand or size and keep a few of them.

I've got my own chickens so I forget store eggs expire in a week or two. "Farm eggs" with be good for several weeks if unwashed until use.

I prefer my chickens to be "free range".

The meat is so much more tender...

Tell her if she cares that much to buy some chickens and get the eggs out of the yard when they lay. Make her put her money where her mouth is.

Dude....if ur wife is that controlling over the eggs u buy I would hate to see what other BSC hoops she has u jumping through.

That's a relief!

I thought maybe you measured the thickness of the albumen, or compared the nutritional composition somehow.

You do realize that "pasture" eggs are not really what you think they are, right? You probably envision chickens running around a field, foraging for bugs and seeds, and a person of a different race collecting eggs from under a chicken each day. But that's ok also. That's what they want you to envision.

Your friendly fellow POSC Ags thank you for your business!

So are you saying username does not check out? Whenever I think of a chicken ranch I picture roiling hills and pastures full of broilers. Now I feel like there might be a different meaning

Tell your wifa that certified "pasture raised" eggs or "pasture raised" chicken just means there is a small fenced in yard next to the warehouse that chickens "could reach if they wanted." No chickens go out there. It's a sham.

My wife has taken to chickenery. I'm currently paying about $100/egg, so OP is making out like a bandit. Learn from my experience and don't ever let her take up raising chickens. You have been warned.

Much like deer hunting where that venison ends up costing $200 a pound.

They kill the cage-free birds when egg production slows. How does she feel about that?

It's mostly in your head. We raise our own chickens and have fresh eggs. In the winter when they lay sporadically we have to buy store bought eggs. There's honestly not much difference between the cheap ones and ours
