He has died at 81. Such an influencer at a critical time for our nation.

He's the fella that smashed watermelons with a sledgehammer, right? He will be missed.

He's been a rotund guy for decades. Wasn't he the "donor" for one of Madonna's offspring? Or was that a rumor.

He had a liver transplant when I was in college, and I'm an old. I would have lost a ton of money hammering the under if his lifespan O/U was set at 80.5 back then

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice: with CSN and also with the Byrds. Played at Woodstock. Must have seen some wild times as a rock star from the 60s through the 80s! And he managed to live to the ripe old age of 81. Cheers to a life well lived!

He and his wife frequented the same restaurant my boss and I did in Encino. It wasn't unusual to see celebs who lived in that part of the Valley at Stratton's. The boss and I were regulars there and were friends with the owners as well as many of the staff. We saw Crosby there often but never interacted. We just happened to be there the evening of my birthday, hadn't planned on any sort of birthday commemoration but it turned into a mini celebration. Unbeknownst to me the manager asked Mr. Crosby if he'd sing happy birthday. I was pretty shocked when he sit down at the piano, started singing happy birthday and figured out it was directed to me. Afterwards, he walked over and visited with our group for a few minutes. After that day, when he and Jan would come in, if we were sitting at the bar they'd always stop by and exchange a few pleasantries before heading to their table. He seemed to be a genuinely nice guy.

That couldn't be further from his public persona. He was hated by a lot of people, especially those who knew him. That's an incredible story for you, though. I am definitely jealous.

This was post transplant, post stay in a Texas jail and post the tumultuous days of CSN (and Y). I suspect, like many people, he had mellowed some by then as he aged. I on the other hand have just gotten grouchier and more reclusive with age. I count seeing CSN do a show at Irvine Meadows as one of life's thrills. Grew up a fan of their music and though their better days were behind them by then it was still a treat to be able to catch them live.

It's hard to say how easy it would be to become a bitter man. If he's been bothered by fans every time he left the house for years, that would get old for some people. Some people probably eat up the attention, but it's not for everyone.

As Bill Burr said about Coco Chanel, "I don't know, I can't judge her because I've never been in her position"

That but he did about her and Nazis was pretty crazy.

The one time I met him was about 5 years ago before a show they did in San Antonio. I was with a friend who had to go talk to their road manager about something and I was just kind of hanging out backstage waiting on him. Mr. Crosby was hanging out back there, as well, so we started bull****ting and he was a very nice, down to earth guy, so much so I thought he was a roadie or something, I didn't realize who he was until my friend came out and told me who I was talking to.

Keep out the Y, a southern man don't need him around anyhow.

There is a documentary on his life called "Remember My Name." It's worth watching.
