All star or Castaway??

I like the All Stars better because there seems to be more flex in the rod. The Castaways seem to be too stiff.

the favorite is the All Star Shrimp tail Classic at 7 ft.

Again it depends on what kind of lures you are fishing.

If you are fishing topwaters and walking the dog you need something fairly stiff to really make the lure "pop," the same holds true for lots of tauts.

If you are using something more like a DOA shrimp I like a slower action (more flex/less stiff) so that the lure behaves more naturally.

If you are a croaker soaker/bait chunker a slower action rod will allow you to cast better with less chance of tossing your bait off of the hook.

Ugly stick. Everything else is a cheap subsitute.

The Second Amendment is in place in case they decided to ignore the other ones.

croaker soaker <snicker>

Castaway 7' saltwater ultralight with the short handle. Good all around rod for throwing tails or topwaters...

I use an All Star Titanium, 7 ft., 783 Medium Fast Action. Best rod I've ever owned, hands down. Great for plastics, topwaters, spoons, or sub-surface lures (Corky's, Catch2000's, etc.) Ain't cheap, but worth it in my opinion.

I will reiterate what I said in the thread about fishing reels.

Unless you are purchasing (or building) a custom rod there isn't much difference between a $100 All Star or Castaway and a $300 G.Loomis.

The All Star Classic and Castaway Saltwater rods for about $50-$75 are excellent rods for the money.

You know me, gotta roam. Gotta bird-dog. Gotta cross females and fences, and if you'd all just come along you'd see...

I use both the All Star & Castaway.

Law99 is right, it depends what you are fishing for. Most of the the fishing I do is in the surf and I use variety of artifical baits so medium action rods with Curado's(reel) is what I use.

I have heard good things about the Ugly stick. Several of my friends that bass fish use them.
