How long could you keep it a secret? Can't tell the kids cuz they'd tell everyone. Probably would have to peace out to a mountain cabin or beach house for a couple months and not tell anyone. Have a team of lawyers write up a trust and a letter to go out to all our family members. Maybe send sizable checks to some. Have a third party trustee handle any money requests.

I think I would be able to handle that amount of money easily.
I'd tell people I won a lottery of a much lower value that's enough for wife and I to retire, so they'd know why I'm quitting work, etc.. but not be lining up looking for handouts.

Much of my family (parents, aunts/uncles, several cousins) and close friends are all well off anyway, some of them flat out wealthy ($5m+), so I don't think it would be an issue at all. Those that are close to me would benefit greatly, I ain't keeping $1b to just our 4 walls.

I know they are "good problems to have" but try to imagine how quickly **** can get out of hand with that kind of money. All the people asking you to help them out, including family, friends, and strangers. People would stalk you and you'd have to keep an eye over your shoulder all the time. You'd probably have a lot of relationships end. There's definitely a downside.

The $1.6 billion figure is the annuity total after 30 years. It's rising faster than the cash payout due to rising interest rates.

Cash payout will be somewhere around $600 million, after taxes somewhere around like $350 million. The actual payout isn't set until the draw because they base it on ticket sales.

I got so trashed yesterday that I was daydreaming about winning the lotto and I actually believed I won the lotto.

Puking my guts out at 3 AM sucked.

What you would need to do is set up a charitable trust for those things. Start a nonprofit and tell everybody who asks you for money to go to XYZ website. Hire a couple people to screen applicants and give them a set of criteria.

I would set up another secret charitable trust controlled by me exclusively so that I could donate money to causes at my discretion.

The best thing to do after you win is to dig several holes in the backyard and bury the money like Cousin Eddie in Vegas Vacation.

I plan on hiring a guy to be my money guy. When people come to me to invest, or with some stupid story or idea, I send them to my money guy. My money guy's job will really be to just tell everybody no. A couple precent on 500 mil is plenty no need to do something stupid.

I ran the numbers yesterday when picking up tickets for a pool I'm in with some friends. Lump sum after taxes is $463,201,200. Hardly worth playing.

If I win the lottery, no one will ever know. "Had some investments that did well". For all anyone will know, I did well enough to upgrade my lifestyle, and I'll help out some close relatives.
