I remember being told on a campus tour a loooooong time ago about a prank where student ran a cow up the stairs in a building. They then found out that while cows can go upstairs they cannot go down, so the cow was slaughtered on the second or third floor. I cannot find anything about that story on the interwebs. Does anyone know if that story is true and what building that was?

I remember that story on a tour, maybe it was Langford.

But probably one of those apocryphal stories they tell like the library is slowly sinking because they forgot the weight of the books.

I'm Class of '79 (Animal Science). Got my M.S. in Food Science (focusing on Meat Science) in '81.

I've never heard that story. If it did happen, I'd say it was in the old Animal Science building (prior to Kleberg)

I remember hearing that story when I was a student. I also thought it was some old building on east campus but I might be making that up.

It was the YMCA building with the long staircase in front.

Supposedly cows will only walk up stairs so they had to shoot it and then, not wanting to waste it, barbecued it.

Total BS!!!!

In the Spring of 1989 my buddies and I took a calf up to the third story of the Academic Building. We loaded it on the elevator. No problems other than the fact she had the scours. Long story but my buddy got an A in English Lit. He later became a Director in the FBI.

Sinking? I heard it was suppose to originally be taller but they had to lose a couple floors after considering the weight of the books.

Also heard the sloped under hanging on the library originally had a brick facade but that it all slipped off.

At one point bricks did fall off of Evans.
