Having a huge metro center in a desert is just not a great idea. We did a helicopter tour last time we went to Vegas and you could see the lines on the cliffs around the lake where the water usually is.

Is Lake Mead below the level where they can draw water? Seem to recall that was the point where the reservoir became useless.

Yeah as far as the Corps of Engineers page says it is now below it's useful generating pool this week.

I think they are still pulling drinking water out of it though. They've extended those pipes to keep municipal water flowing.

Agriculture is a much greater draw on the Colorado than Vegas

All water comes from somewhere. If there's a serious water shortage, the Bellagio water source could be used for something more important.
