This. They're not gonna hunt you down if you don't go and even if they for whatever reason did you could say you never received the summons, must have got lost in the mail.

Consider serving, it is quite the learning experience. The professionalism of these people will blow you away.
Don't skip. It is literally the least amount of effort with most amount of impact you can do to serve your community.

You can reschedule. Many counties allow you to schedule the date you serve online. Find another date - easy peasy

If your business is successful and you're white, you'll never serve. I'd definitely make the effort to re-schedule and "do your civic duty", but the outcome wouldn't change.
Nothing in my adult life has been a bigger waste of time than showing up for jury duty. I'm either dismissed or the case is dismissed every f'ing time.
I got summoned last summer for when I was on vacation. I called to reschedule, they said they'd send me another date in the mail and never got anything.
During voir dire, tell them "if he's not guilty they wouldn't have indicted him."
I've never been able to experience it. Got a summons once here in Colorado. I showed up with everyone else and the defendant accepted the plea deal.

During voir dire, when asked if you can apply the law (they always ask this), raise your hand and tell them you believe in the tenet of jury nullification.
This is a valid American belief but 999 out of 1000 judges will strike you right on the spot.
Make sure you know what it is before you use it though.

I've been called a lot. Often the check in the day before has told me I'm not needed. I've forgotten and missed entirely. That time I called a few days later and they say no big deal. I've shown up and missed the cutoff. Never served.
Wife got called, while the lawyers were in conference, the judge was bloviating and mentioned it was a DUI case. He asked if anyone would have a problem with that. This was about a year after our daughter was seriously injured by a drunk driver.
Wife told the judge she would judge fairly, but if guilty, she'd vote for the maximum. Judge told her she could leave.
Wife got called, while the lawyers were in conference, the judge was bloviating and mentioned it was a DUI case. He asked if anyone would have a problem with that. This was about a year after our daughter was seriously injured by a drunk driver.

Usually this has been my experience in some form. Recently summoned in my current county a few months back during a time I was going to be out of state. Went to the clerks office explained situation, they canceled summons on the spot and said have a great trip.
My county sends out fines for the no shows. I guess that's not typical?
What's the over/under on the amount of people complain about society who also skip jury duty?

Every time I get summoned I end up never having to go in. You could just play the odds the defendant pleads out... or do like others said and call to move it.
1. As others have said, counties generally let you reschedule if you call in.
2. No-showing is not recommended, both for reasons of good citizenship and to avoid potential penalties - fines are normal, and some judges will send officers to come get you.
3. If you're selected and can't get out of it, go and serve to the extent required. It's your duty and can be rewarding and enlightening.
4. If for some reason, you want to get struck from the jury, I don't suggest doing anything outrageous - judges have been known to take that poorly and find people in contempt. Instead, respond fully (and honestly) to questions asked during voir dire, volunteer (relevant information), and generally engage with the process. Generally, the more you reveal about yourself, the more likely it is that at least one side will want to strike you.
