At a popular place to eat with counter service and a long line (I.e. a BBQ place) what is the etiquette for being late and joining someone in line? Obviously 1 person holding a spot for 4+ people is BS but what about 1 for 1? 1 for 2? What's the appropriate ratio before you're just being a dick?

Just identify as someone that was already in line and you should be fine.
Just don't get caught chewing gum unless you brought enough for everybody...
You go to the end of the line, or the person that got there first should wait for you to get there before getting in line
You butt in with 10 of your other friends.
Farting in long lines is almost like farting by yourself: you have the appropriate amount of coverage in both scenarios.

You stay out of the line and text your friend your order and only approach to pick up and pay for your order.
Start a phone call, speaker loud enough for the whole line to hear it. Curse your baby daddy and join your friend in line.

If it is roughly 1:1 people already in line to new arrivals I can tolerate that but it has to be pretty clear they had been expected to arrive all at once, and they know eachother well, and the total number can't be more than family sized.
Served until they run out BBQ joint? Your ass is going to the back of the line.

If said cutters have nice boobs and nice asses, as many as possible can cut. If not, no cuts.

If I'm in a line and the person in front of me is letting a bunch of people cut, I just join the party and cut in front of all of them. I've never had anyone call me on it.
A +1 is ok .. anything over that is not cool.
