Anyone had dental work done in Mexico?

My dentist wants me to get several crowns due to enamel decay over the years. Teeth feel fine and insurance will not pay for the crowns (even though it's only 50%) since they say it's cosmetic.

So, Mexico? Anyone gone down there? Lots of online companies pimping Mexico for dental vacations.

Costa Rica is a better dental destination and there are agencies that specialize in scheduling everything for you.

That wouldn't be the part of Mexico to have any dental or medical procedure done. You go in for crowns and leave with no kidneys.

If you drive into Mexico given the current environment and issues there, you're stupider than I thought

Lots of people go to Mexico for dental work, it's very common.

Plenty of people don't come back from Mexico too, man.

I've never heard of anyone disappearing after a dental visit to Mexico, maybe it's happened, but it's not common.

I live in the Valley. The real answer is that it's very hit or miss. I know people who have done it with okay results. I also know some local dentists who have told me about the expensive repairs they have to do to shoddy work done in Mexico.

If you're going there because it's less expensive, there's a very good chance you're going to get what you pay for.

Cosmetic surgery is a bargain in the border towns. My brother took his girl friend down for a cheap breast augmentation. They are saving up to get the left one done for Christmas.

I don't understand the point of getting them both done, myself, I like a little variety.

Just go get a 2nd opinion here before going down there. I do have a few horror stories from Costa Rica and Mexico. Not all but some.

You don't have to drive into Mexico. You drive to the border and walk across the bridge. In any border town you will find dozens of dentists catering to gringos.

I don't think they do **** like adult marching band competitions in Mexico. So you won't even have a pastime when you're kidnapped by the cartel and held for ransom.
CNN is an enemy of the state and should be treated as such.

I don't think I have been to a US dentist since maybe sometime in the early 80's. I have had dental work done in Nicaragua, El Salvador, CR, the DR, and Mexico. El Salvador was the best, they had a program in the 80's where several European countries trained docs and dentists. The one my daughter and I went to, more so her as she had a complicated deal, was excellent. Lady practiced out of her house and had a nice set up.

In Mexico I would look at doing some online research on Monterrey instead of right along the border, as the per capita instances of hacks is higher along the border. Monterrey has good docs and dentists. Easy to get to, you can go to Laredo or McAllen, park in the parking garage near the bus stations, for about $35 there are really nice buses leaving about every hour. About a 3 hour trip, just be sure to stop and get your tourist card at the bridge, the bus company will know how to do that.

I know this dentist in Nuevo Progreso, https://www.welcomehomergv.com/business/dental-progreso-dr-xavier-aguirre Grew up with him and his sister. Perfect English, good guy. A lot of our contemporaries go to him for dental work. I think he did some stuff for my daughter as well years ago, the wifa knows him better than I do. But I am not sure of the level of what he can and can't do, thus I would look at Monterrey as well.

I would only go to a dentist in Mex that you can communicate with first. Look at the reviews for them as well. I recommend Monterrey as it will be cheaper and if you have a multi day type of situation at least you are in a cool city to do something instead of crossing over the border and having to deal with that BS.

I live in Corpus and I've got numerous friends who drive to Progreso to get their dental work done. They highly recommend it.

I've got great insurance so I just stick to Corpus.

Dental tourism is actually pretty popular in India too.

Dentists there are banking off westerners.

My dad does this. He's going again in a couple of weeks but they also have a place there. Won't be back until mid April.

In my 20s, I knew that I needed my wisdom teeth taken out soon, but forgot to upgrade my dental coverage during open enrollment. I was dating a Brazilian girl at the time. Her mother still lived in Brazil and in their city was one of the largest dental schools in Brazil. Her mother was friends with the Dean of the school, who was also still a practicing dentist. We went down there for a couple weeks for vacation and then her mom's friend pulled my wisdom teeth a couple of days before we headed home. What would have cost me a couple thousand dollars back home cost me around $100, including the pain meds she prescribed afterwards.

It has been awhile, but I had good work done by Dr Tuttle in Progresso. She has a Facebook page. Just look for the Purple Tooth.

Years ago my wife and I road tripped out in the Big Bend area. I did a Google search to see if there was anything touristy in Presidio or across the river in Ojinaga. One of the first things that popped up to do in Ojinaga was dentistry.

I don't recall if there was a donkey show involved.

Did you get your moustache waxed while you were down there?
