Who has had it? Was it good? What's it like?

If you haven't had it before, would you try it if you were at a restaurant that served it?
CNN is an enemy of the state and should be treated as such.

I worked on commercial fishing boats for years. I probably ate shark fin soup 50 times. It's okay. Typically, they make it with chicken or duck broth. So it ends up tasting like salty chicken noodle soup. Shark steaks are a much better way to prepare shark. I wouldn't put shark in my top forty tasting fish anyway.

Most of it is just Asian folklore and aphrodisiac nonsense. They only want the dorsal fin from blue sharks. From thresher sharks, any of the fins are good, except the long tail. From whitetips, they want the pectoral fins. And so on.

Finning sharks is a horrible practice. They really do just bring in a 10 foot shark and cut off the fins. They'll use 3 pounds of meat and let the rest sink to bottom.

Diced shark dick? I've eaten a lot of things in my life but I'd have to draw the line here.

That's so weird. Asians are usually known for their dedication to the environment.

We need more sharks in the ocean...predators are important in any ecosystem. Not a fan of killing them just for the fin, so I wouldn't try it if offered.

Humble brag here. I was diving in Antigua last week and we saw a beautiful grey reef shark swim by. just doing his own thing. It was pretty awesome.

Yeah, the de-finning thing is pretty awful.

I loved Shark fin soup particularly when cooked with crab but no more. Disturbing to me to see sharks definned. If we remove sharks from the ocean some say oceanic species will cease to exist.

went to a restaurant where it was served and we decided not to get it. From what I had heard, the taste wasn't really worth the ethical ick.

Another destructive/wasteful fad traditional menu item. "Traditional" medicine related, aka duping suckers for centuries.

See, this is where you're wrong. It's an important, "cultural" experience. Like whale slaughtering. It would only be barbaric if white folk did it.

I wish we could convince those cultures that zebra mussels, gulf of Mexico and Caribbean lionfish, and giant salvinia had similar aphrodisiac properties...

Amen. On that same dive, we saw a ton of lionfish. They were doing a spearfishing dive for them a few days later.
