Howdy.

I am interested in getting a diamond added to my class ring. My younger brother passed away the same semester that I graduated and I am thinking of having his ashes turned into a diamond and added to my class ring As a way to remember him.

Has anyone had experience adding a diamond to a ring after you had already owned it? If so, are there any jewelers you would recommend?

Inb4 someone makes a comment about why I should or shouldn't put a diamond in my ring. I'm not asking for reasons why I shouldn't (unless there is some physical or logistical reason obviously).

I would think quite a few Ags could comment on getting a diamond added to the ring. I was told that some Aggies do it when they make their first million, so there has got to be plenty of experience out there with adding a diamond.

I would go directly through Balfour, so it wouldnt void the warranty.

........and, iirc, the warranty is voided if someone else modifies a Balfour ring.

I put a diamond in my Aggie Ring that wasn't from Balfour. It was the diamond my grandfather (class of 55) had in his ring and the stone was from his mother's wedding ring after she passed. I had a jeweler from my hometown do it and have had no issues since I had it done (2006-ish). I have not had to have my ring resized or anything so I don't really care about voiding the warranty from Balfour.

You know, they may in fact be rigid on that, but OP story is compelling enough I'd at least give them a call and see if they'd work with me on it.

Just an FYI probably like 10-20% of my friend group of guys had diamonds in theirs when they first purchased it. It's more common now I think.

Had anyone ever used the balfour warranty except to resize your ring?

Who did you use to get the diamond put in? Did you just purchase through Balfour and they installed?

I always heard diamond for men was when completing a Masters/PhD or after first million made.

That being said, new army is tossing them in pretty much whenever they want to.

The Aggie ring seems pretty low risk.

Wouldn't let a relatively useless warranty keep something like OP's situation, with such strong sentimental meaning, from happening.

I have heard of people's rings breaking and needing them recasted before.

I think the ashes thing is going to be similar to getting someone else's meat back from a ****ty processor.

Normally, I'm a "no diamond" guy.

However, this is a very moving thing you want to do. I'm going to mention this to my daughter - she has a few degrees form A&M also.

My recommendation - call Chuck. He is the man.
