Anybody actually eat any enchiladas at the La Salle in downtown B-town? Do they even still serve them?

At the time Lovett and Keen were in school (and wrote the song), the La Salle was vacant. The enchiladas mentioned in the song were from Los Nortenos.

At that time, Los Nortenos was located in the old Hotel Charles coffee shop. That's across the street from the La Salle, a couple doors down from where Los Norts is now. For a while after Los Norts moved, there was another Mexican cafe there called "Dos Hermanos," which has since closed.

The use of "La Salle" in the song is probably just poetic license. I guess they decided "La Salle" sounded better than "Hotel Charles." I agree.

The "Palace Walk-in" is still there, although it's an amphitheater now.

Anyone been in the La Salle since they renovated it? It looks pretty good.

I've been in it. It looks really nice.

The rooms are great. All outfitted with antique furniture and every room is different.

A few rooms have old claw-footed bathtubs they have rigged up with circular curtains, shower fixtures, and whirlpool jets. And TV. Sweet.

We took my grandmother there not long after it opened and she remarked that they were the original floors. She remembered being there when it first opened--the first time.

The LaSalle is very nice now.

Los Nortenos used to be the absolute bomb as far Mexican food in BCS goes up until about 1995 or so, and now its just not very good.

I wonder what the waitress looks like now, and if she still smiles very time.

Los Nortenos isn't that great anymore....but their breakfast tacos are GOOD.

Is the house there still?

La Salle is very nice! My favorite part is the TV in the bathroom (in their suites)! You can lay in the jacuzzi tub all night and watch TV!

gina's is where the chef from nortenos went a long time ago.

nortenos is crap.

this was before 1995 so the person above either has bad taste or is just old and can't remember!

real people know that tampico's where the magic happens.

The Presbyterian Church is not there anymore.
It's now "Traditions" private dorm.

The Cortes family opened Gina's while Norts was still going strong. I don't know anything about the truth of gazoo's statement. However, I have not detected a great change at Gina's. It was better than Los Norts from the start.
