Anyone else chanted this on the merry-go-round at school? Where did it originate? What does it mean?

Seems kind of a crazy thing to say. The people pushing the thing were more like slaves than masters. Were we electing a new leader of our 3rd grade society?

Nope, never heard it and never said it. My parents thankfully didn't send me to a cult school!

Merry-go-round? What kind of lame school did you go to? We were playing dodge ball and wall ball and red rover

I think it goes " Master! Master! Where's the dreams that I've been after?"

I remember doing that on our local merry-go-round, until one kid fell under it and broke the **** out of his leg. Merry-go-round go bye-bye.

Oh yea we played this all the time in elementary in the 80's. Nothing like 10-12 kids spinning that thing so fast until the centrifugal force either threw the one rider off or made them puke. The new master was selected when the kid either flew off, puked, or tapped out
We also played this on the McDonald's spin thing on the playground. That was brutal. If there were too many pushing and you were the rider it would snap your neck back and you could not straighten it back unless it slowed down. I saw a many of fries and burgers puked from one of those when we would attend birthday parties.

Yes. Word for word: Faster, faster, we need another master! It was weird, but didn't seem so at the time...

I created this rhyme back in the early to mid 80s. That is where it came from.

Don't remember that one. Then again, our school playground lacked that piece of equipment.

We had our own piece of play equipment at my grandma's house: the seesaw of death. Built of 1/4" rusted steel pipe and angle iron, with a rotating pivot at the middle, and rebar handles and sharp cornered seats shaped like home plates, all with barely de-burred oxy-torch cuts.

You could seesaw, but also be spun around at the same time like a giant mower blade. Many a kid that didn't get out of the way was scythed down by its unstoppable momentum once we got it spinning fast, and it the kids on either end let one of them hit ground suddenly, the kid on the high end was liable to be flung off at high velocity.

It was wonderful fun.

Dodge ball and red rover were state-sanctioned pain when I was in school. The merry-go-round of death was student-led.

When I was a kid in Houston circa 1964 or so, we would jump rope to the following:

"A tisket,a tasket
Hiltler's in his casket.
Eenie Meenie
Mousollini
Six feet under ground."

I am sure folks nowdays would consider that weird. LOL
