Cute, cuddly and loveable... just some of the words you might use to describe labradoodles.

But how about "crazy" or even a "Frankenstein's monster" with major health problems?

That's what the creator of the first ever labrador-poodle crossover says.

In a recent interview on an ABC podcast, Wally Conron says the invention is his "life's regret" and he hasn't "got a clue" why people are still breeding them today.

He's become concerned that an influx of copycat cross-breeds has created health problems for many dogs.

A normal labrador or golden retriever is all anyone really needs out of a dog. If you need a cross-breed because your pathetic genes make you allergic to dogs, you deserve to be the one to suffer -- not the poor frankenstein dog developed so your snowflake allergies aren't affected.

Our rescue labradoodle is named Wally. Had no idea that was the breeds creator's name; kids named it after the Pixar movie.

We also had a rescued schnauzerdoodle, Duke. Last dog I will ever love. Wally can go f himself.

I'm allergic to dogs so I guess I have pathetic genes. Thanks for letting me know.

Having said that, I have allergy issues with labradoodles. They are not hypoallergenic as there are no proven hypoallergenic dogs.

Sorry to hear that. Like kids with peanut allergies, I think we can all agree it would be more humane if you could avoid procreating so we can try to keep this defect from passing on to further generations.

Isn't every breed the result of generations of selective breeding/cross-breeding?

I saw a Saint Berdoodle and it was the coolest thing ever.

Not sure while we're still breeding humans with allergies

Why this guy acting like he spent countless hours in the lab to meticulously create a dog "breed" that would not have occurred without human intervention in nature?

You put a female lab in heat with a horny male poodle in the same vicinity, they're gonna screw.

Ugly ass dogs.

Totally unrelated since I don't know the health issues. It blows my mind that these dogs cost anything. They are muts, that are not a recognized breed, yet people pay hundreds for them.

Biblically speaking we humans all cross bred but eventually lost track.

That's my frankenpuppy on the left. Half lab half boxer, $10 at the pound. So far less health problems than my pure bred boxer.

From my understanding, literally all a person needs to do to keep the peanut thing from happening is to eat peanuts while pregnant or breastfeeding and give them peanut stuff as a baby.

Not sure if true, but I ate pb everyday while pregnant, it was one of few things that didn't make me sick, and now my little is obsessed too. So maybe true!

So this dude that "invented" a lab/poodle cross thinks they're LESS healthy? How in the world is this possible?! With no knowledge of any true scientific studies on the issue, I can by pure logic and knowledge of genetics guarantee this hybrid cross is, on average, more healthy than a purebred dog of either breed. Hybrid vigor is not a made-up thing.

There are enough labs and poodles that the gene pool isn't very crossed, so the hybrid benefit may be pretty slim, but there is absolutely no reason a labra=doodle or a golden=doodle or a golden=bernard (or whatever cross) wouldn't be (generally) more healthy than a specimen of either root "purebred" stock.

I believe it, and I use peanut oil in most things I cook. Neither kid has any problems with them.
