He just spent 2 hours and 45 minutes of my time killing it in the Moody Theater.
He shamed Charlie Sexton into coming out and playing.
In any event, it was a good, real good, show.

I might go back again tomorrow.

Old man can play longer than I can stay up. I kept thinking now THAT hit has got to be his closer, but he just kept on going!

he proudly proclaimed his hatred of fat babies. And for that he is a hero and a national treasure

he is a state treasure.

I'll never forget when word got out that he married Julia Roberts, my wife was crushed. Her only response was why would he settle for her? And she was right. Julia wasn't good enough for him, although she did inspire some great songs from what I think is his best album - The Road to Ensenada.

Tell your mama I love her
Tell your daddy I tried
Tell them I wish that I could explain
The way that I'm feeling

See the sun comes up on the pavement
The pavement it starts to sweat
The steam rises up from the water
And the hotter it is you know the harder it gets

And it ought to be easier
When you turn your lights down low
And it ought to be easier
To leave when you know that you have to go

Look
I understand too little, too late
I realize there are things you say and do
You can never take back
But what would you be if you didn't even try
You have to try
So after a lot of thought
I'd like to reconsider
Please
If it's not too late
Make it a.......................cheeseburger

Sugar Land concert was great. I thought it was long because his mom and all his relatives were in the crowd. His mother's side of the family is named Klein. He explained that they go back in Texas to 1850s. He would spend a family weekend once a month mowing the Klein family cemetery followed by a picnic.

He did not sing She's Hot to Go (ugly from the front)

Introducing That's Right (You're not from Texas) he talked about a Sulphur Louisiana friend in the crowd. David Walker QB for the Aggies under Coach Bellard.

Lyle still lives in Klein - at least part of the time anyway.

It's been 10 years or more, but I once saw him at some restaurant on Louetta or 1960 (can't remember, it's been too long).

True story.

My Mom worked for Klein Funeral home, and one day she walked into work and sitting at her desk was Lyle typing away at her computer, writing up the eulogy for his Dad's funeral. She thought it was odd, but it was Lyle and he's part of the Klein family, so she just sat back and waited until he was done...She did talk to him and said he was the nicest person.

There was a picture of Lyle and Julia on the wall of Campionis. Picture of them dining there.

I saw them at Cafe Eccell one evening in 94 or 95.

I try to see him every time he comes up this way. You'd be shocked at how many New Englanders are die hard fans of Lyle. The Boston Ballet even did a ballet based on his music. My wife's extended family is full of musicians, and when Lyle's name comes up, all you hear about is how great his shows are. Tons of respect from other musicians.

I have mentioned before that my roommate at A&M was really good friends with Lyle. Lyle was the most polite person I have ever met, a really classy guy, and I like his music!

I attended a town-hall type interview he gave once, but I've never made it to one of his shows. Even in that setting he was a a joy to listen to - humorous and interacted with the audience.

I'm really hoping to catch him in Wyoming next month!

One-eye Fiona is also related to her. It's her middle name.

Oh man... I love Lyle.

But I was late to the game. Wasn't a country music fan... and so biased against it, I wouldn't give it a chance until I was about 23 or 24.

I remember some girl that hung out in our circles (she was kind of hot, and from the front, too) saying "Oh man, I'd do anything to marry that man", and all I knew about him is how odd he looked, and thought she was a little touched in the head.

I picked up Road to Ensenada, and within a week I had purchased every album and see every time he comes to College Station.
Got me in Robert Earl Keen as well.

I think his best song, and one of the best written songs ever is LA County.

I saw him along with REK at Rudder Theater a few years back. It was just the two of them on stage, sitting in recliners, singing, and telling stories from their time in Aggieland. We were sitting very close to the stage and it kind of felt like it was just a small group of us in someone's living room.

Lyle came and spoke at one of my Journalism classes once. Late 80s or maybe it was '90. It was an 8 a.m. class and I skipped it a lot, but not that day. Got to meet and talk to him. Super nice guy.

NO AMNESTY!

in order for democrats, liberals, progressives et al to continue their illogical belief systems they have to pretend not to know a lot of things; by pretending "not to know" there is no guilt, no actual connection to conscience. Denial of truth allows easier trespass.

Rode up in the elevator in Reed McDonald with him. Sad to say I didn't realize it was Lyle. Just a man with weird hair. I felt so dumb

Last saw him out at Wolf Trap in 2016. My wife got me tickets for my birthday. He sang gospel, tributes to Guy Clark, a couple with Emmylou Harris, and several of his classics.

Listening to Lyle sing gospel while backed up by the gospel choir from Morgan State University might be as close to heaven as one can get in this life.

I believe your story because I've experienced it too. Mexican place. Probably on 1960. But this would have been 25 years ago. You don't forget something like that.

Plus...

Saw him in Primm Nevada a few weeks ago. He played his ASS off for a way too small crowd.

Lyle is definitely the man. If I've seen him once, I've seen him 20 times. Mostly at the Majestic Theater, but also at Bass Hall and Reed Arena. Always puts on a GREAT GREAT show! I love his Large Band gigs, especially when Francine Reed is in the lineup. Have gotten to see Rickie Lee Jones come out and sing with him on South Dakota several times. Another time Sheryl Crow came out, and unfortunately he also coaxed Lance Armstrong onto stage. It was funny when he substituted "Lance Armstrong" for "Neil Armstrong" in "Here I Am" but it was really awkward having him out there "singing" when he clearly didn't know the words. His non-large band shows are great, too. Boy, does he get some extraordinarily talented musicians to play with him!

His songwriter shows are pretty great as well. Saw him, Joe Ely, John Hiatt and Guy Clark at Bass Hall. They took turns playing acoustic guitar, introducing each song they played, and bantering back and forth. What a privilege to see those guys interact! The mutual respect was evident.

Roommate told me there was this great musician playing (northside bar?) and I went. It was him on a stool with just an acoustic guitar. "If I had a Boat," was what I most remembered.
Saw his big band at Rudder some years back.
