It's supposed to somehow evoke human interest by forcing you to a different perspective, but it just annoys me that I have to rotate it to properly appreciate the content in normal directional orientation and deal with the missing bits clipped out where the corners should have been.

Back when we had real photos, you could just tilt the photo instead of tilting your head. If you're on your phone, just tilt the phone. If you're on a computer, throw the computer at the photographer. That solve your problem?
