Glad to see a study like this that doesn't take into account diversity or some other b.s. metric. Austin would have certainly lost on that front.

Good! Houston is full. People should move to Austin. Or El Paso.

"took into account some of the most important factors that go into where you live and work, including include quality of life, housing affordability, general desirability and the strength of job market"

it's a good thing they used objective, quantifiable factors.

Housing affordability my ass. Have y'all seen the home prices around Austin lately? All the damn Californians are all too happy to just hand a builder a blank check for overvalued properties, so guess what, they all started jacking up costs.

By Austin, do they mean living in a sweet new-build high rise condo in or near downtown/one of the close by cool neighborhoods where walking to great amenities and nearby parks are a way of life, or do they actually mean tract housing in Hutto that is a solid 45 minute drive from anything that isn't a Walmart* or Dairy Queen?

So basically, the whiter the city, the better. I'm sure someone will be along shortly to call the list racist.

Broba,

My daughter just moved back to Texas after five years in San Francisco. She opted to move to Austin given her background is in high tech. Her job search took longer than expected, and she said the primary reason was all the Silicon Valley folks that were bailing on California and coming to Austin. Obviously, they are doing their part to drive up prices.

They've got a Chik-fil-a opening any day now. I think they'll be ok.

This highly credible study was probably done by the same research firm that says places like Camden apartments, grocery chains and progressive insurance are the best places to work in America.

The problems with San Antonio, Austin and Dallas are the people that live there. The problem with Houston is that it's Houston

Austin and to some extent San Antonio at least have some sort of variation in elevations. Dallas is just as flat and ugly as Houston. The whole Dallas v Houston argument is like comparing dog and cat *****

Austin geographically is better than Houston and Dallas. The people are about even. The traffic is about even.

The people are nowhere even. I'd take Houston trash over an Austin fake or Dallas snob any day.

It's a trick to get people to leave Houston since it's too damn crowded.

Y'all move to Austin & get out of here.

The Money magazine survey is interesting, but traditionally college towns do very well. This year Fayetteville, Arkansas is number 5.

You have a really weird obsession with Houston. It stands out even to those of us who don't live there.

I don't need research confirmation to tell me Houston, Austin, Dallas and pretty much all big cities suck balls.

Austin must be the most overrated city in the world. It's certainly better than San Antonio but otherwise it's just a big traffic dump with generally **** weather, food same as any big city in TX and really bad music scene. People rave about the polluted lake and Barton springs both of which host about 40 people per day on average. I lived by Zilker park for 3 years before half of California moved in so know what I'm talking about.

That's why you live just outside of Austin.

Austin sucks but the hill country is awesome

Houston is depressing. Strip mall city and humid.

San Antonio is slighty better than Houston due to it's proximity to Austin.

Austin would be nice if the hipsters and homeless left, and if the city council was not full of lib imbeciles.

Dallas is not worth talking about.

Apart from the topography, none of the major cities in Texas are all that different. If I lived in Austin, I'm sure the actual annoyances would be very similar to the ones I have here in Houston. Heat and traffic are very comparable.

At least here I don't have to endure some stoner screwing up the verses to Poncho and Lefty while I pick up my dry cleaning.

and once they are here they start complaining about guns, cows, trucks, lack of mass transit, need for more social services etc etc. once they take over goodbye fiscal surplus. then they'll all move to some other low tax business friendly state and **** it up too.
