My son is about to out grow his infant car seat.

Wife and I are deciding between the two following. Thoughts?

Britax Boulevard

or

Diono Radian 3RXT

Do you have a truck? Let them ride in the bed. It never hurt the rest of us. Saves you money and the kids enjoy it.

We picked the sleekest and best looking ones...didn't think much about the safety rating.

Once you're into the name brand stuff (i.e. not the cheapo Walmart* (meets minimum legal standards) junk from China)), its all the same crap. Just get what seems like it will fit better in your car and keep your little sex trophy facing towards the rear of your car until you have to turn them around because their legs just won't fit anymore.

No I do not own a truck.

My wife hates trucks.

We are all about looks too. Which one did you pick?

We've had a bunch of Diono for the kids and they've been great.

Have both Britax and Diono. Diono is good for putting seats next to each other since they are narrower compared to traditional seats. They are also heavy AF, think fighter pilot ejection seat.

For rearward facing younger kids I think the Britax is more than adequate/safe and simpler to setup. I give the nod to Diono for older kids who are forward facing.

AT the time we had a standard SUV and needed 3 car seats...not easy. This was 4 years ago, so not sure what's available now.

We basically sold a perfectly good SUV and bought a Tahoe simply because we couldn't fit 3 car seats...I despise car seats.

I would go darker in color...thing will look like trash in no time if it's light colored.

Car seats cause autism. Have you seen the list of chemicals in the materials they use to make those things?

I'd go #1 simply for the fact that he'll be riding rear facing for a while and you'll eventually turn it around. By the time he gets big enough that you can use the booster on #2, you'll want to burn it from how disgusting it is and you'll also tire of the weight and trouble with moving it from car-to-car. "Oh, we'll have 2 so we don't have to move it from car-to-car!" Bullchit. They'll go somewhere with the grandparents who won't be buying a new car seat each time the sex trophy hits a milestone with a new seat. They'll rely on you to move it. Same with their friends' parents and your siblings who may have tots the same age.

More advice...try to find the best rated yet lightest one you can. My wife has this thing that it has to weigh like 97 pounds to be safe. I have a cheap one from Target that's narrower and lighter and it's rated just as good.

Went from a perfectly good running Edge to a minivan for the same reason. Well, I was able to make it work, but you know the old saying about happy wife...

I'm pretty sure my wife would murder me if I bought a mini van.

Which one would you rather sleep in? First one looks a lot more comfortable and can be reclined. For long car trips, it's all about them sleeping and not whining for as much as possible.

I actually like it. I wasn't real anti-minivan when we bought it, so I went into it with an open mind. It's great for hauling 3 kids and the cargo space is awesome. It's also easy for my 3 year old to climb into and out of and I don't have to worry about either of them opening the door into another vehicle. We're taking our first road trip in it this weekend when we go up to the hill country for a few days. Should tell me what I need to do or how well the 14 hour drive to the family farm in Iowa will be this summer.

Minivans really are an ideal car for families with young kids.

Way more convenient than SUVs.

We've been happy with our Diono Radians, but as someone else mentioned above, they are really heavy (28lbs according to the American Airlines scales). If you plan to travel with it a lot, that may be a factor to consider. I use a rolling car seat bag that can be carried as a backpack and it's worked out okay. We love it because it's so narrow that it fits easily into any car and especially nice when we travel with friends and need to put three seats in one row.

we have the Britax Marathon (for flights mostly), and the Britax Boulevard. Love both of them. Easy to install (Click Tight system), easy to clean, and my kid loves them.

That britax is hard to move unless they changed its connectors for anchors.

If they fixed that then it's fine.

But
You'll have to buy another seat at about age 2.

Are you in Dallas? I have a lightly used one you could have for free. Only the youngest of our 12 kids needs a car seat these days, so we have a couple extra. We use one for Grandma's car, but the other has just been sitting out on the porch blocking my access to gardening tools and insecticides.

...kidding. It's been carefully wrapped in trash bags and sitting on a shelf in the garage. Let me know if you want to meat up so I can give it to you.

So do they have any seats with shock collar like devices, but for the entire seat?

That Britax is a convertible. It goes forward or rear facing, and maxes out at like 60lbs. I haven't had any problems with the connectors with the click tight

JGC to Sequoia for the middle row seat space and more room to haul crap for road trips.

Its convertible yes, but our kid maxed the height out before he was 2.5.

And ours has those horrible carabiner type clips, not the nice button release click tight.

I've always said that unless you tow or live somewhere with truly difficult terrain the only reason to choose an SUV over a minivan is purely out of vanity.
