I have AT&T it sucks, maybe that can help with your decision. I've heard Cricket is good.

Haven't had any problems with mine, probably more expensive than the others.

Carriers are changing their policies all the time, see you may just want to look and see who throttles you after a certain amount and who is less likely to do so.

Pretty sure cricket is att towers though. I just want this to use my phone as hot spot to stream to a rokutv while at work.

Cricket has their own towers in addition to AT&T towers, plus it is cheaper. I don't know if their customer service is as bad, though.

Would it be better to get a second phone with some other service to use as my Wi-Fi hotspot and streaming device temporarily? Or a Wi-Fi hotspot? New territory for me. TIA
This is worded really bizarrely. What do you do on your phone? It sounds like you have home wifi?

If you're just streaming randomly at the airport or while the wife is shopping its fine on verizon/att. I wouldn't ever try to work with it as a hotspot though unless i was in a desire situation. I think you only get 10gb or something with that set up though.

Basically there is no way its cheaper to get a second phone. That hassle seems obnoxious and tons of places have free wifi.

if you are military, T-Mobile has a pretty good unlimited plan, especially if you are going overseas again.
I'm sure most places do, but T-Mobile will likely be cheaper. Even if your not military, their service will likely be cheaper compared to AT&T or Verizon, and they have pretty generous overseas service with it.

You do need to check your coverage for where you will be. There is no use in getting a cheap plan if you can't use it because of crummy coverage. Their service is a lot better than 10 years ago.

I have Verizon unlimited and streamed Sr Avila via HBOGO/chromecast to my TV all weekend without any issues.

I have ATT and would have switched to Tmoblie in DFW if wasn't locked in in 2 yr iPhone payments. I sat in the T-Mobile store 2 mos ago and ran speed tests on my iPhone and one of theirs - blew ATT out of the water.

Yes it's,not,an issue at home. I have home wifi and can and do stream all content to tvs and phones at home. However, I am currently assigned to a ship that is stateside and will be at a pier for the majority of the next 4 month's. I just hit my data limit on Verizon for the month, so I obviously need to upgrade my plan. Generally, i spend half the year overseas using other carriers so this hasn't been an issue. Because I'll be stateside, i have to provide my own phone so I'm using my own data. I want to be able to stream to my tv without choosing an arm and a leg. Im trying to figure out the best unlimited data plan to do so. Does this help?

Yup, a ton. I'd honestly ask your buddies who gets the best service out there. They compete enough to where prices aren't gonna be dramaticly different, but the amount of bars you get can definitely by provider. Go with who gets the best signal out there. I have 0 clue who that is. Seems like Verizon usually does better but the other day skiing I had service att/ gfs Verizon didn't. Ask the people who'd know best!

If I remember right you live in the League City area. I'm off of Toddville road in Seabrook and based on my experience Sprint has worked the best for us here service wise after having both AT&T and Verizon. Price is just a bit cheaper, but would pay more regardless just to have reliable service

T Mobile works great in the CHS area. Not sure about where else you'll be but the only place I've encountered trouble was rural New England where only Verizon worked.

Cricket also caps your internet speeds. Pass if you can.

I have TMobile and I can use my phone almost anywhere in the world. I go to Canada a lot so it helps. Does Cricket allow that?

Cricket is AT&T network with a different package of service and billing plans. You might find an option there that fits you better than AT&T but the tower network will be identical.

TMobile has unlimited plans overseas. With that said, I got rid of them after 6 months because I felt their service was lacking here in the US and went back to AT&T unlimited. But my brother who lives in Chicago swears by TMobile. But for overseas, TMobile works in a ton of countries, so may be worth looking into. I know it worked all over Europe for me just fine.
