I realize this is going to draw a lot of sarcastic responses. thats okay.

just curious if anyone has this as bad as I do into their adult years. I am 30.

I cant sit in the back seat of a car without feeling nauseous almost immediately. Whats weird is boats and roller coasters dont bother me.

also, I cannot be on my phone, read, or watch TV in a car without it making me really nauseous. anyone else deal with this?

I either have to drive or sit shotgun. really embarrassing to have to explain this to people if I ever get in the situation where I absolutely have to.

I have the same problem. Getting a beej usually fixes the issue.

Only once in the road to Hanna in Hawaii.

I once sat in the third row of a rental SUV and made the driver pull over after a few minutes because I was claustrophobic. One of those third rows that really shouldn't be. The opening between the roof and the top of the second row is like 8" or so. F that noise.

Anyone who gets sick on a boat should walk the plank. On a boat is probably the most fun place anyone could be.

When the motion you feel is different than the motion (or lack of motion) your eyes see is when you tend to get motion sickness. That's why looking at anything inside the car (phone, book, etc) makes it worse. If you're okay in the front, that's because you can more easily see the ground outside the car. My recommendation is that when you are in the back seat to sit up as high as you can and look out at the ground though the front and/or side window.

maybe you should just travel by boats or roller coasters

Not that uncommon. I have some family members that have this. If they can't drive, they have to ride shotgun or at least have a direct view out of the front windshield.

I feel you, OP. I pretty much always have to drive. Definitely can't sit in the back.

I had frequent car sickness as a child.

As an adult, I only get it when I ride somewhere with my dad driving.

My kids get it on long trips. We give them Benadryl and it helps a lot.

Happens to me in crappy cars with soft suspension. I'm fine in trucks and bigger SUV, or even cars with stiffer rear suspensions.

Here. When I have to sit in the back seat, I move to the middle so I have a clear view of the windshield. Other than that, smoking a joint helps. Or so I've heard. I travel a bunch for work and it really sucks driving everywhere.

These are supposed to help. I don't usually get carsick, but they did help when I had a really bad hangover and was sitting in a car for 6+ hours.

Rugby Meclizine HCL either 12.5 Mg or 25 Mg. It's over the counter can be bought online like Amazon or ask for at the pharmacy counter

Meclizine works very well without being drowsy. Promethazine is also excellent but it requires an Rx and may make you sleepy.

I typically only get sick on long road trips when I am chugging a beer at the top and bottom of every hour.

rtp, I'm a little older than you--a little north of 70, and I still struggle with car sickness. I'm good in the shotgun seat, but put me in the backseat and watch out. I can take Dramamine and am good to go. I can't read in the car, nor can I ride on one of those playground things that go round running along side then jumping on. Miserable feeling when nausea rolls in.

This. I can handle a roller coaster if I'm in the front seat, but a merry go round will destroy me.

I didn't start getting carsick until late 20's. I cannot ride in the back seat for more than a few minutes without taking meds. Airplane rides are hit or miss. I had to stop flying the turbo props out of CS because I would get so sick, including puking in one of this lovely blue bags. I did better than anticipated on my cruise this past Jan, but did have a few moments where I was queasy but we did have. Really bad weather so it was pretty rocky and it was a smaller ship. I also can't jump on trampolines or even ride swings. Roller coasters are hit or miss. I won't do anything that goes upside down anymore or for sure that goes in circles. Meclizine helps for sure.

Same here. Also, with boats I'm okay with large ships and small waterski boats. But, a 35' out on the open seas - puking. In addition to merry go rounds, the tea cups at Disney would send me to the ER.

I get it and I don't. I don't understand it. No rhyme or reason that I can tell that triggers it. I've had a considerable amount of head trauma throughout the years and one of the by products of that is random ass carsickness I guess. Equilibrium problems I assume.

I have to say I am so grateful you posted this is OTC. I went to get special vaccines about 2 years ago for a work trip and a Dr wrote me a script for it. I ran out during my cruise and had no idea it was OTC.

I have to drive or ride shotgun. When I was a kid, all I had to do was see mountains while in a car and I'd puke. I've never been able to ride anything that turns a circle, and I can barley tolerate roller coasters. Tried to drive form Reno to Frisco and ended up in the hospital. Took a m/c ride on Deals Gap and got sick on the bike. It really sucks to get sick like that.
