Land animal? Size matters. African Elephant. Huge, fairly smart, tough. Some things maybe could invenomate it, but it would crush those things to death long before it went down due to size.

Maybe, but I think rhinos are pretty peaceful and not aggressive. Hippos are mean.

A large male white rhino is 5500lbs.

A large male African elephant is 13,500lbs and stands 13+ feet high at the shoulder.

Yeah, I seem to remember some Nature show where rhino's knew to go around the elephants. A bull elephant with a full set of tusks wins that match.

This is an awesome documentary, and I think it answers the question. In addition, I think you could say that the documentary shows what happens when the family breaks down and young men are brought up without adult males in their lives. Take it to the Politics Forum, etc., I know.

OP asks about land animals, and the GB dummies answer with "orcas" and "saltwater crocodiles", etc.

No animal could defeat an African elephant in a 1 on 1 fight. This question would be more interesting if we could take packs or groups of animals into account.
