Black widow protects an egg sac containing hundreds of babies



A spider wasp drags the body of a spider across the gravel. A female wasp will search for a spider and will sting it. When the spider is paralyzed by the sting, the female wasp will take the spider to a burrow and lay an egg on the spider abdomen. When the egg hatches, the larva will feed on the spider. The spider is alive just paralyzed and eaten alive.

I stepped on a scorpion once while barefoot when living in NM. The pain... despite being heavily intoxicated, that sucked! Had been camping out in the southern part of the state and spread out gear/ tent in the garage to dry out. Guess he hitched a ride back to the house. Truly felt like a needle had been shoved through my foot!

Stepped on one accidentally barefooted in the kitchen (Dallas). It didn't sting me but I instantly intuited that it was a scorpion.

I've never seen one. Lived everywhere in TX.

Web stung three times. Twice on the foot (pinky toe and heel). Once on the hand while cleaning out a skimmer basket. Hurts like a mother ****er! Pinky toe was the worst. ****ing Gonzales.

My grandparents always referred to them as "stinging lizards". Is this just weird east Texas vernacular, or is it more widespread?

Redundant...phrase is redundant.

One hitched a ride in a pair of workout shorts that had been on my floor. It got me twice on my hip. I legitimately thought someone was stabbing me.

When I recovered, I was so grateful that it wasn't in the crotch of the workout shorts.

Killed two of those effers last night in the ranch house. Haven't been out here in a couple of weeks.

Pest control coming tomorrow.

My wife had one sting her on her ass in bed one night.

I had one crawl up my pants leg and hit me right above my sock.

My dad had one sting him while sleeping. It fell from the ceiling onto his chest and stung him when he reflexively grabbed it.

Annnd I just sat down in the recliner and put my feet up... There was a scorpion curled up on the front of my shorts. No idea how long he had been there (I've been wearing the shorts for about 20 minutes).

My hs mascot was the Scorpions
