Want to know the TexAgs group think around calling a friend by the new name they're using.

College friend "Dick" goes nuts if you don't call him "Richard" now. So... of course I still call him "Dick".

An Asian friend who I've known for five years recently changed her name to an Americanized name now and it feels awkward to not call her the same name I've been using ever since I met her.

So, what would TexAgs do?

I have a friend that stopped using the nickname he had gone by his whole life after he moved to Austin. Everybody he grew up with still calls him by his nickname, including his family.

There is another friend from HS that gets called by his middle name whenever he comes back home to visit and we all get together. He had to explain to his gf this past Christmas that most of us would be calling him "Earl" instead of his first name

Call him what he asks. I have had a couple of relatives that went by funny nicknames when younger but when they had kids, asked us to use their given names.

I have a friend who went by his middle name his entire life. Sometime after college he decided to use his first name. Those of us who grew up with him still refer to him by his middle name. The only time we use his first name is when he is being a dick, and we are trying to get a point across.

I have a cousin that at age 30 or so decided to change her name. That wouldn't have been too bad, except she refused to answer to the old name. So all the old people at our annual family reunion that had called her by one name for 30+ years suddenly got ignored because she decided to go by something else.

I ask for the legal first name and stick with that. If he wants to be Steve or Mike instead of Stephen or Michael, then his problem is with his parents. Etcetera.

Nick names make no sense at all. "We named him James, but we'll call him JR." What the effing eff?

Dad and granddad also named James, so they call him JR to avoid confusion. Happens all the time.

Have a friend at work named Steve. Call him Rick, because he has an alter ego when he goes to the strip clubs. Thus I call him Rick and if he had it his way, He'd only be Rick as well

He's 37 now with 2 kids. We still all call him queef.
