If you can't answer these three questions you are wasting your time and money:

1)why an mba? (You better have a plan on how an MBA will help you reach your career goals)
2)why now? (If it was of any value, why didn't you do it earlier? Or for young people, would you benefit from more experience?)
3)why this particular school? (What about this particual program sets it apart from all of the other schools in helping you get to your answer to the first question?)

Since you are looking at online programs, it is clear that you don't have an good answer for any of those.

MBA from Harvard, Stanford, Northwester, Wharton = 2 years of networking with society's future "haves."

MBA from middling programs like Yale, A&M, SMU, Rice = gets you that lucrative promotion to senior director and that sweet high-walled cubicle that has a sliding door.

Online MBA = check the box on the automatic 5% pay raise your company offers for having a "graduate" degree.

HTH.

There is a difference between an online degree from an online doc factory, and an online/distance program from an accredited University. A&M has online/distance programs.

Do your research.

This is actually true from some programs. For example, lay a transcript from two Masters of Engineering graduates from A&M, one online and one traditional, and they will be identical.

The printed transcript from the online degree can connect to wifi.

The value of something is only what someone else is willing to pay for it. Nothing more or less.

If you can do an Online MBA and get paid the big bucks, then it has value. If you get laughed at by HR people, then there is no value.

I have a Part Time MBA from a top school that has been mentioned in one of the posts above and my experience is:

1. Go to a top ranked well known school for MBA or forget about it. Brand name matters in industry.
2. Try to go Full Time. You enjoy the experience better. Valued by industry more. Esp Consulting.
3. If not, do Part Time if you have to work also at the same time.
4. If you are older, then go for Executive MBA. It is light on course work and high on soft skill stuff. Good for established execs.
5. If everything fails and you merely want "MBA" after your name then go to Univ of Phoenix and do online MBA. Risk HR and strangers pointing at you and going "bwhahahaah"

UNC does it if you're an athlete, you don't even have to go to class!

20-50% of an MBA's value is the access to the alumni network. Which he already has for aTm.

Well that's true, but that is only part of it. The other 80-50% means you need an MBA to bolster your credentials. I was only an Engineer (from A&M) but my MBA added to my value as employers started seeing me as capable of business decisions as well.

Your Aggie network cannot help much if have a technical degree but want a business related job.

until you get asked about your classroom experience in some such graduate level course or why you didn't do any graduate research.

I see that on the civil side. But most of the engineers I see in management or associates usually just check the MBA box with an online directional school or UT Arlington. A few went with UT-Dallas which is supposedly pretty decent.

Distance learners at reputable brick and mortar programs can answer both of those questions.

That's true, but are they capable of doing well? Some are. Some aren't.
An MBA increases your chances but is no guarantee.

If you think about it, you don't really need a degree for anything. Just youtube and google should do.

Can't wait for online MD programs to become a thing. It's already the case for nurse practitioners.

To be a little bit more clear about my intentions of going for an MBA . I am not looking for a career change and I am not looking to change jobs I am merely looking to get a little bit more knowledge about the business operations and processes.

One of two determined factors in me not getting a promotion at work was my management experience. While an MBA won't give me management experience I think it will provide me with Concepts and foundational knowledge that I can apply at work.

My degree from Texas A&M is math and science-based and my professional certificate is the same.

My company will be paying for 50% of my degree .

I would like to move up within my company

You clearly didn't learn much getting your MBA, if you didn't understand that I was t saying she shouldn't get an MBA, just that she shouldn't get an MBA from aTm.

Look into the Blended Learning MBA at Babson College. Babson is an excellent business school that has been pretty creative in offering programs to people who have executive experience. They also have a one year MBA program that takes into account work experience.

Go back to flipping burgers because stuff is way about your paygrade.

Or maybe go back to where you came from - Mexico. Before we build a wall and evict you.

That is correct. You will have increased your odds of a promotion but it will not guarantee.
With an MBA you can always look for another place to work which will move you up.

That is what I have done. I didn't want to get into a M-F consulting job so I moved companies and moved up.
