Shareece Wright takes 8-hour Uber trip from Chicago for voluntary Bills practice

Quote:

Not wanting to miss a voluntary practice Monday, veteran Buffalo Bills cornerback Shareece Wright took about a 550-mile and over eight-hour Uber trip from Chicago's O'Hare Airport to the team's practice facility in Orchard Park, New York.

Wright later tweeted that the ride, which began Sunday night around 11 p.m., cost $632.08. One of Wright's representatives, Tamerat Berhe, tweeted that Wright also gave a $300 tip for a total cost of $932.08.

8 hours for the passenger. For the driver it was 16.

$632 less operating expenses for 1100 miles and 16 hours of time? Pass.

Why wouldn't he tip him the cost of the one-way trip since he most likely won't be able to find a rider to go back with?

Since he got picked up at O'Hare, I assumed that he had a flight get cancelled...though the story didn't say that.

After expenses it's less than minimum wage. (except for the tip, the tip was good money)

My BIL was at O'Hare on 9/11. After the flights all got cancelled that day, he said there were folks catching taxis to places like Miami, because that was the only choice.

You realistically think that he picked up a significant number of rides on his direct route between Orchard Park and Chicago?

It would be cool if, for situations like this, there was a company where you could just borrow a car from them, like rent it for the day or something.

My thoughts exactly. If the driver was just doing this in his spare time and had to miss a day of work for this? What an idiot.

Assumes that he
1) has a valid license
2) was not drunk or wasted

Not a given with many pro athletes.

My dad got grounded in Cleveland and he called his secretary and told her to make a car reservation at every rental place. He drove back from Cleveland in a full sized SUV in 28hrs.
