Two questions

1) which river is best to float? Guadalupe, Comal, Concan, Frio, other? (Not even sure those are all rivers. I've never floated a river in Texas)

2) for that chosen river what's the best cabins to rent? Looking for middle price. Not a sht hole but not expensive. Just a regular cabin with water access.

Asking for a friend. TIA.

I'm much older than my friend and her 4 friends. I'm not going. They just asked me since I went to school in Texas but I don't know either

if the water level is good the frio is a damn fun time

Guadalupe is good too...I have more fun doing the horseshoe than the long trip.

the comal is ok but it's right in town and usually super crowded.

San Marcos river is another option

I like Guadalupe personally, usually float the horseshoe. Comal used to be fun, but now they've changed a lot of the rules about coolers & what not so it's more of a pain now.

If there has been enough rain to make the Frio floatable, that's what I'm always partial toward. I floated the Comal and Guadalupe quite a bit in college, and they were never quite as dependent on the amount of rain as the Frio was

Guadalupe is the river they were planning. Any cabin rental suggestions?

I'll mention the horseshoe

If you want to see boobs, go float the Blanco river outside of San Marcos. Fred's Fush Camp or something like that is where we used to go.

We rented a condo last time I went. Thousand times better than camping.

Am I the only person that noticed Concan is a town, not a river?

Why would Concan no longer be a town?

Frio has been running up compared to recent years. As so, it can be tubed and its water clarity, abundance of rapids and pleasant scenery make it #1 in my book in Texas.

Frio is the answer and the flow is ok right now. Can check here http://www.tubetexas.com/flows/frio-river-flow.html
My sister has two houses on the top of cats claw mountain that she rents but likely booked up. Nicer than her real house in katy.

But there are nice rustic places for less money. We always stayed at Neal's when we were kids. Concan/Garner are just to far from most cities for a day outing, but is you are going to stay 3 or may days I would not consider Comal, Guadalupe or san marcos.
Use to do a week every summer on the Blanco at boy scout camp but not much of a float trip.

Rio Grande

Hurry. Will be one hell of a climb to get out if you do it after the wall goes up.

My parents have a condo in the Inverness complex on the comal. 2br/2bth full kitchen, wifi, cable, etc. Right on garden street on the river and across from schlitterbahn. We usually park a vehicle at the wurstfest grounds, float and get hammered. Get out a the condo, eat some food, toss some washers, sober up a bit. The float from the condo to the end. Toss the tubes in a shuttle. One person retrieves the car via shuttle while everyone else showers and gets ready to go out for the evening.

San Marcos is spring fed and the correct answer.

But "It's Concan, not Cancun" is a t-shirt sold in Concan, dammit

I said in the op I didn't even know if those were all rivers. I'm only like 1/2 Southeast Texan. I don't know your rivers. I made a guess from years of eavesdropping on river stories.

Hide away at the Horseshoe, or google whitewater amphitheater cabins. I'd say good luck to be honest it's pretty late to find a cabin unless its from a Monday to Thursday you're planning on staying. If you have no luck on the Guadalupe, go for the San Marcos river. Leisure Camp in Fentress is a good hide away about 15 minutes from San Marcos and 25 minutes to New Braunfels. I love the Frio, but I'm guessing since you'll have guest coming from out of state you'll want more than just sitting in the river. San Marcos or New Braunfels each are about 30 minutes from Austin or SA for that tourist bs they'll want to do.

Frio and it is not even close. Just search Concan lodging and go from there and you will be solid.

Concan is the town you stay in when you float the Frio
