I show up to restaurant with wife and friend around 5. This was on sinkoh day mai-o.
Quick conversation with waitress:
Me - Do you have happy hour?
Waitress - yes.
Me - Until what time?
Waitress - 7pm.
Me - Is there a margarita on there?
Waitress - Yes.
Wife says, I'll have one of those. I pause and think, but instead I get a beer. Friend gets beer too.
15-20 minutes later, my friends wife shows up and sits at our table. Waitress comes by, sees my wife still has half her marg left, then sees my empty beer so asks if I need anything, I said, yeh I think I'll do a margarita now, too. Friend and friends wife both say yeh me too. We ask if happy hour has food.. yes, so we order 2 apps on happy hour and 1 not on hh.
Next go-around, wife switches to a beer, but the other couple and I got another round of margs. Still well before 7pm.
The bill comes, there is one happy hour marg at $5, and 6 petron margs at $10 ea.
I was pretty pissed. We all noticed it right away, but didn't say anything, it wasn't worth the headache. Is that acceptable for a waitress? We ask about margaritas on happy hour, wife orders one, then next round I say I'll have one now too, and she brings top shelf? Plus the others for the other couple?
At the very least, she could have cleverly asked 'is patron marg ok?', then, if we just said sure, she's safe and made a successful switch to patron. But my answer likely would have been, 'whatever happy hour is', which would have made it wrong for her if she brought patron.
But she didn't ask. Just completely ignored the precedent initially set by my wife.
