Waco actually has a pretty good zoo for smaller kids. It's not as big as Ft Wprtg, Dallas or SA but they did a good job.

Animal prisons.

Yeah I've been to fw. Its awesome but 3.5 hour drive. Any others?

Suprisingly, the Gladis Porter zoo in Brownsville is good.

The Franklin drive thru zoo is actually quite nice. One of their buffaloes or something popped up by my Momma like that viral video. She screamed "oh, sh*t!" And she never cusses.

Snake Farm or Fossil Rim.

Fort Worth is my favorite traditional zoo.

There's some stuff to see on foot but most of it's just driving. Beware the zebras. They're mean as ***k.

Fossil Rim is always fun even when you're an adult. Nothing like a giraffe sticking its head in your sun roof.

It's possible. I haven't been in 10 years or so. I didn't think much of Fort Worth but it's probably been 20 years since I've been there.

Went a few years ago and it seemed really run down. Part of the zoo was completely unenjoyable: the sounds of bass and tejano music at 120 decibels drifting in from Breckinridge park was relentless

Natural bridge caverns is expensive and not great. Was there 2 weeks ago and spent a ton of money for nothing. San Antonio is ok but my biggest problem is if you get there early before the crowds, no animals are out. Snake farm is okay but expensive considering you can walk in and out in 30 minutes. Austin zoo is okay just don't get there before field trip day. We obviously live in the area and my kids aren't easily impressed so I might be jaded.

So either fw or stay home...

I've been meaning to get back to the Dallas zoo since they've done so much work there, but the Fort Worth zoo dominates.

This same thing could be said for Trinity River developments, convention space, downtowns, and college sports facilities for Dallas vs Houston.

Fort Worth is a high bar, though. We went to the zoo in Zurich, considered one of the best in the world. It was excellent, but really did not stand out as being head and shoulders above Fort Worth in any area.

Uh, Houston zoo >>>> SA zoo. It's not even close. It's been 20 years, but I remember the FW zoo being outstanding and the Dallas zoo being ghetto.

Dallas zoo upped its game with a really well done renovation/addition a few years ago. I think FW is still the best in the state, but Dallas at least closed a decent chunk of the huge gap.
