Former bully here. I have a similar situation where I made this one guys life miserable in the 8th grade. Ive wanted to apologize for around 25 years but dont want to bring back bad memories for the guy. I still talk to his dad every now and then to see how hes doing, which is pretty well. I just dont know whether to make contact and tell him Im sorry or just let it be. Maybe give him the opportunity to punch me a few times in the face and kick me in the nuts without kicking his asss for it. If i could run into him casually, then i think it would be easy to just say "hey, i just want you to know im really sorry for being an idiot when we were kids" and just leave it at that. But making contact out of the blue just feels like it would cause more harm than good at this point. I started worrying about this after seeing the movie Flatliners many years ago. What do you think, you former targets?

I participated in some group bullying in 6th grade, ostracizing a kid we had been friends with, calling him names and generally making him feel like sheet. In many ways the psychological bullying is worse than physical... We betrayed a kid who had been our friend.

I've felt guilty about it for 30 years. Tried to look him up on facebook and apologize, etc. But I'm like you... Would I just be doing it to make myself feel better? Is it better off left alone? Or would he at least take solace in the fact that it has bugged me all these years?

Same here mostly psycological. I thought about lying to him and telling him im doing the 12 step program but i dont want him telling everyone on facebook, ha ha, guess who's an alcoholic? I guess im still a little selfish.

The article says after hearing his name, he began to run away, and all I can think is a middle aged dad bod guy Turing and awkwardly running slowly away

Its kind of ironic. The 2 people that bullied me are dead. One in a car accident and the other running away from police and hit a tree and died. Hit the limb with his head.

The thread about getting paddled at school combined with this thread made me cyberstalk the kid who was the king of misbehavior in 4th Grade. He didn't make it. Died 2 years ago.

Thankfully it wasn't one of those situations that left lasting scars. I don't even think he went the full duration of the elementary years at that school. I remember being punched in the stomach a few times and just harassed but with a solid home life, I quickly got over it. It just surprised me when I heard his name on the news..

There are no minorities in Vidor!!

Looking back it seemed like we could tell by about the 5th grade which of our classmates would eventually end up with police records. Also, coming from a small school, I got the impression that the teachers talked among themselves and already knew which kids were the bullies when we arrived for the new school year. It sure seemed like teachers wouldn't exactly hurry to break up the fight when a bully picked on the wrong person and was getting his tail kicked.

It is not. They do have some minorities living there. Especially Hispanics have moved out there.

I had a guy that bullied me in junior high contact me on FB several years ago, it was more odd than anything else. I appreciated that he apologized and told him so, but it didn't really have much of an effect either way for me.

He sounded like he was dealing with some things and I wondered if his message might have been in response to counseling or something similar. More than anything else I just felt bad for him.

I've thought about that as well. Thanks for the response.

OP - as part of my restitution for my past sins, if you need help with these guys or just want them to disappear, let me know. I have access to lots of construction sites and heavy equipment. You would be surprised how easy it is to make someone disappear. And in most cases such as these, not a whole lot of people mind their disappearance.

I'd probably tell you to go **** yourself. (not a bad outcome for the whole thing, really)

I just wish my life would have turned out worse than it has so that he could look me up and see how miserable I am etc. But unfortunately that's not the case. Things have always just worked out for me. I'm successful, have a great looking wife, four children and lots of money and investments.

One of the guys that bullied me got murdered when he was 19. His brother and fellow bully is living in Neuvo Laredo. Found out they were abused by their uncle when they were kids so it turns out they had it much worse than me. My uncles never touched my wee wee or anything like that. They just had me haul hay and castrate little bulls etc which in itself was not a lot of fun but not too bad either.
