first off boiled shrimp is relatively tasteless...secondly cocktail sauce is disgusting.

Yet every year at the christmas party people engulf the shrimp like college students on a keg of natty light.

I used to hate Cocktail sauce... but as I grew older, my taste has improved to where I appreciate more complex flavors... Now, I order shrimp just so I can get cocktail sauce.

As you get older your tastebuds die...meaning your tastes have gotten worse not better...case and point...shrimp cocktail.

let me guess, goAgs92... chicken fried steak and french fries is considered the best meal you could ever ask for... probably sour cream on a baked potato is out of the question as well.

As a kid, I HATED cold shrimp and cocktail sauce. Now that I'm older, I really like both but have a hard time finding anywhere that serves cold peel-n-eat skrimps.

I keep telling myself that one of these days I'm going to do a big shrimp boil, but never get around to it.

I actually don't like chicken fried steak very much...and refer to the white crap they slather on it as redneck gravy.

Sour cream is awesome.

Boiled shrimp can be very flavorful is cooked right. You just haven't had an opportunity to experience good shrimp.

and how exactly is cocktail sauce a "complex" flavor. Isn't it basically ketchup with horseradish in it?

Well, I consider horseradish something only adults enjoy... "complex" might be the wrong term, maybe "acquired" is better.

As a kid, I just wanted ketchup for my shrimp... then I moved up to tartar sauce... now it's cocktail sauce.

If you use a good shrimp/crab boil... boiled shrimp are great. Find a cajun to make them for you!

You might try a Mexican Shrimp Cocktail with salsa instead of the cocktail sauce and with avocadoes. I've had them with octopus but that's as tasteless as shrimp. Then again that's what the sauce is for.
