I have a friend how lost his Aggie ring in the yard, and ran over it with a lawn mower. Aside from sending it back to Balfour, is anyone aware of any other options for repair? Anyone ever use a personal jeweler to repair an Aggie ring? Any help is most appreciated.

How bad is the damage?
Where is your friend located?
Why do you have reservations about sending it back to Balfour?

I thought if anyone else did work on your ring, the warranty was voided.

OP-why did you 'thumbs up' your post?
I would say that would be more 'thumbs down'

OP-why did your friend opt to find the ring using the lawn mower instead of a normal metal detector?
Your friend could have avoided any damage to the ring that way.

I'm going to use my deductive reasoning and say it was an accident. Maybe he didn't know where he lost his ring until he ran over it

I am choosing to ignore that possibility.

Send back to Balfour. I had to do that 30 years ago. Glad I did.

He did not know it was in the yard...certainly would not have mowed if he thought his Aggie Ring was laying just beneath the grass.

Just make sure to send the repair receipt to the association. They'll pay for half of the repair costs.

It will be cheaper to send it back to Balfour than it will be to have someone else fix it, and Balfour will do a better job because it will be a brand new ring when he gets it back.

I speak from experience as I previously sent my ring back to them in three separate pieces.

The lawn mower blade chewed up the inside where the name is.

I had David Gardner's work on mine when it got damaged. I would rather pay more to have a third party fix my original ring than to have Balfour melt it down and give me a brand new one.

I tried to be cool once by opening a Mexican coke with my ring. Turns out those ****ers are a lot stronger than beer caps.

Ended up denting my ring and not opening the bottle.

Why on earth would someone opt to have someone else repair the ring? Balfour will do it correctly, and without voiding the warranty.

Lost it and ran over it in the yard and found it... April Fools joke, right?

But if it's not, there's a warranty on our rings... For what?!?!?!
It's a cast gold ring. Your's have moving parts or something?

You got a pic?

The warranty allowed me to get my ring replaced instead of having to buy a new ring and sell the other one for melt value.

Rings prior to a certain date (until the 90s , at least) were two parts, the base, and the "crown" (the part with your class year on it). I had issues with the soldering keeping the 2 parts together oxidizing and turning my ring a copper color; finally had it replaced. I couldn't have done that were the ring's warranty voided.

Then mine's 2-pieces as well.

My only problem is that the re-solder (after resizing) keeps busting loose after I use it as a bottle opener.

Wasn't aware we have such a good ring warranty: http://www.aggienetwork.com/ring/warranty-and-service/
