I tried one the other day and thought it was good. I will be buying the ingredients to make them at home. I don't want to use my Woodford Reserve as I like to drink that neat or on the rocks. What bottle do you recommend for a good Bourbon Old Fashioned and how do you make yours. Some online sources say to use club soda when you muddle the ingredients.

Rye works well in an old fashioned, actually. I'm don't like it neat but will drink it in an old fashioned

You drink what you have on hand.

My personal preference would be Buffalo Trace.

-Pour scotch over ice
-Splash of topo chico
-Stare at unopened bottle of bourbon while enjoying

What do you call an old fashioned made with vodka anyway?

Why do you have to ruin scotch to enjoy looking at bourbon?

Old Fashioned ain't bad- just leave the orange out of it, and garnish instead with a lemon peel.

If it's a whiskey cocktail though, Manhattan is our drink of choice

Considering the OP asked speficially about what to use for a "bourbon old fashioned" I'd say most of this thread is not what the op asked for, so why stop at Canadian?

Like many others here, I'd go with Bulleit rye. Rye stands out a little better in cocktails than bourbon.

And shark, please stop pouring good scotch over ice.
