So I have been researching Dachshund puppies. From what I have read they range from $300 all the way to $1450. The $1450 puppy advertisement says the dog is from a Championship Bloodline.

I'm looking to get a Dachshund that will be good with other dogs plus perhaps small children some day. Do the Championship Bloodline dogs have better temperament than other dogs or does it just mean one of their parents won a dog show and all behaviors are pretty much the same through the breed?

Also, do you have any suggested breeders I should look into? There's lots of Dachshund breeders on the internet, but I'd like to investigate one that's Aggie referred or possibly even Aggie owned.

We have a mini dachshund and I think she is literally retarded, or just really really stupid. I was against getting it but my wife wanted it. After getting this dog I will never buy another pure breed dog again.

There are over 300 official dog breeds and an infinite amount of mutts in the world. Why would you intentionally go out of your way to get the single worst type of dog in existence?

Years ago before I knew better I purchased a dach from a local breeder. That dog had more health/emotional problems than any dog I've owned. He was a wreck. All our dogs since that time have been adopted from area shelters.

You have to be careful with dachs and small children as the breed can be snippy with them. Also, they are prone to back problems so it's a dangerous combination with toddlers. One wrong fall by the toddler on the dog and you'll be paying for back surgery or worse.

This. We had a silver poodle whose father was the European Grand Champion. She was beautiful and could have been champion caliber herself. But she was a ***** - in more than the literal way. She hated kids and wanted nothing to do with them.

We ended up giving her to an older couple with no kids. We were moving to England and didn't want to have to quarantine her (at the time it was 6 mos.) only to have her snapping at every kid that came near her.

You don't need to pay a lot of money for a well bred dachshund. There are lots of rescue organizations for these breeds of dogs and they often have puppies available. I've fostered many rescue dogs and a few of those were rescued from breeders. You can adopt adorable, loving dogs from a rescue organization. The adoption fee for these dogs typically runs from $150 to $275.

FYI - dachshunds often have back problems and they love to jump. My mom's dachshund recently injured his back from jumping off the back of the couch and had to be put down. These rescue organizations often don't let families with young children adopt these dogs.

Daushunds DO NOT LIKE kids unless they are raised with them. They are also known for being insanely smart and very trainable.

I don't understand why people don't get a cat if they want a cat-sized animal. If you want a dog get a golden or a lab. If you want a challenge, get a Rhodesian ridgeback. If you're in the market for a weiner dog... Just get a different animal. Little dogs are yappy and annoying and they dart.

I will take our weiner dogs any day over a damn stank a $$ cat!
