I have a cousin that just got evicted for the the third time since July.

Is that good? Or should he go for more?

Depends. Is he being evicted by a landlord or another girlfriend?

How does that happen? I thought the eviction process took longer than that!

Here is the breakdown as far as I know:

June/July-ish:
Haven't paid rent in two months, landlord was willing to work with them, but after a couple of weeks of not being able to give him ANY money for rent, he tells them to GTFO.

They move in with his mom (They = cousin, wife, five kids (only two of which they have full custody though), a couple cats and a couple dogs). His aunt gives them $2,500 for a down payment on a five bedroom doublewide in a trailer park. Mortgage would be $600, plus $300 for the lot. They can't get a loan for the mortgage so they agree to a rent-to-own kind of thing.

They move into the double wide, he gets a job selling cars at a Ford place and suddenly they seem fine, but wait. The AC goes out in his 2007 Honda so he trades it in on a new Ford Fiesta, also, their 2001 Expedition needs about $750 worth of work to repair rear air suspension and something else so they decide to sell it for $1,000 and buy a 2009 Suburban for the low WEEKLY payment of only $250.

Fast forward to late November:

He gets fired from Ford place for not selling the minimum quota of 8 cars per month. They haven't paid November rent yet, but did managed to put several TVs in layaway on Black Friday (you know, Christmas for the kids). They start a GoFundMe in November asking for funds to "save their house" because he is now unemployed and raise about $300 (I didn't donate). They get notice to vacate the house by the end of the month, but find someone else willing to rent to them sans deposit if they do some repairs to the house after it was left in poor condition from a previous tenant.

Mid-December - His mom takes over payment and possession of the Ford Fiesta he bought back in the summer (gives them their old car) and the suburban gets repo'd.

Mid-January - They have been living in the new house, but aside from doing some paint and minor repair work, they haven't paid the landlord a dime, he tells them to GTFO, but they end up coming to some kind of agreement, promising payment with their paychecks on Jan 23.

January 25 - Still haven't paid anything, landlord says GTFO.

to be continued.

TH, I have a relative that goes through cars very quickly. sometimes they are wrecked, other times traded, other times break down, finds a "great deal." This is not an exaggeration, I see him about 2 times a year, and I don't think he's ever had the same car in those visits since he learned to drive. And he's not rich and can afford it, either.

Have anybody like that in your family?

Some of them just seem to have different tote-the-note cars they will keep for a few months and then let go back. This one hasn't quite been like that though, his grandparents bought him the Honda when it was about a year old and I'm not sure where the wife's car came from but they at least had had them for a couple of years.

I still can't grasp a situation where someone thinks that $250/week is a reasonable car payment. I could afford to pay that, but still wouldn't take such a crappy deal. $1,000 a month is a mortgage, not a car payment.

I had a brother in law who was apparently related to TH's relatives! He was all for helping out those below him on the socio-economic scale but those were hard to find. Some guy needed cash so he would "buy" the guy's car for $125 and turn around and sell it to someone for $250. Great wheeler dealer except he didn't realize he needed the title in hand to make a sale. This went on through a couple of people until he sold a car to a kid whose Dad had a brain! Sheriff showed up asking lots of questions. All of the people he had done "business" with seemed honest just mentally slow and uneducated so all vehicles were returned to their rightful owners and my former brother in law closed his used car business. No one could afford to pay anyone back and they all seemed okay with that and the poor sheriff and his deputy couldn't believe it ended so well and without gunfire!

Yeah, that story sounds familiar. Cousins/uncles buying something cheap from a "friend" who needed the money. I always figured it was just stolen.

It is when you buy a car at a "buy here, pay here" kind of place. You are also paying damn near new prices when you buy at that kind of place as well

I swear sometimes I think TH and i have the same family. This sounds oddly familiar to my sister and her husband.

She called to make sure I was sending her my "standard" Wal-mart gift card for Christmas. She wanted to make sure I sent it in time for what she needed.

Tanya's resurrection of the BSC just made me realize that Tax Return season is upon us. Do you think they will:

1 - pay several months rent in advance with their check (least likely)
2 - buy at least one car (fairly likely)
3 - buy a XBox1/PS4 and a huge TV (pretty likely)
4 - tattoos? (probably)
5 - start college savings plans? (hahahahaha)

Also, the grandfather whose son was somehow fooled into marrying into this mess is an Aggie, c/o '47. He isn't in very good health lately and I'm willing to be that they have dollar signs in their eyes just thinking of his bank account.

No, a "W"

and BMC, I thank God every day I made it out. 2 of my sisters never even graduated high school. One of them has 3 children by 3 different baby daddies. The other of those two had 3 children and died of a drug overdose at age 32.

My other sister is the one mentioned above. They consistently are buying new t.v.s, laptops, cell phones etc, yet call me regularly to help pay the electric/gas bill or the rent that is 3 months behind.

She's also the one who told me when she got married to her first husband (who didn't work because he had asthma), that they couldn't wait til they paid off the VCR they bought on credit because they felt like once they didn't have that $15 a month payment they'd be able to afford a baby.

Sounds like another one of the cousins on that side who decided that the best way to re-establish their marriage after a six-month sabbatical was to have a 3rd kid. All the while, she never has a job, they live with his mom and constantly have tot-the-note cars repo'd. Brilliant financial decision making.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I don't believe so. But they fit the demographic, I was told that the ones mentioned in the OP get $1,000 monthly on their Lone Star card, and also get WiC. They also get free part-time day care for the one-year old because the dietitian assigned by the MedicAid people for his weight problem said that he wasn't getting enough socialization (hello, four siblings, how much more socialization can he need?)

(Even knowing this is real, it sounds so ridiculous as I type it)

It was actually pretty sad at the annual Christmas Fandango/Fiasco, every time the kid was seem upset they would shove some food at him. To distract him from getting into something he shouldn't, they shoved food at him. It's no wonder that he could barely crawl at a year old, I'm guessing as soon as he made the slightest noise, they shoved a bottle of formula in his mouth.

WIC formula no doubt!

My niece's son asked his Mom and Dad if he and wife, two little kids could live with them temporarily while they "got back on their feet". His Dad asked if his feet would be looking for a job, while he learned to keep his mouth shut! Went right over his head! His wife(common law after two kids but only 2.5 years and they know the rules)said she was going back to school...lacks last semester of HS or GED tests, then on to college on a softball scholarship she was promised back before she got pregnant her Sr year.

When my niece and husband lived in a dump to save money to buy this huge home their son spent his time in the backseat or his car because the house looked too bad to bring a nice girl home to! Now, he wants to live in the house and complain about why they didn't buy the house with the pool. His Dad complained about pool upkeep and expense and his answer was...I could do it for less than the pool guy would charge you!
