Having grown up in a big family, I think it's worse when you know who made it warm. Warm seat in an empty house? I can rationalize that. Knowing that you're feeling your older brother's butt heat is far worse.

i have those at my workplace and they weird me out. i always have to turn the heater down to minimum

No central heat. As long as my kerosene heater is running or I am under my electric blanket life is good. But if the heater has been off for a while it can get chilly. It is currently not quite 50F. I had the heater on a bit ago so that has it warm-ish. Sometimes, when I get out of a hot shower I can see steam coming off of my skin for a while.
