We're hosting an adoption event tomorrow and I really want a dog. Give me your horror stories to keep me from taking home a furry friend.

My work schedule is crazy and my courtyard doesn't really count as a dog-friendly yard.

Do yu have a good sized yard?
Will you walk it EVERY day (assuming you are not out in the country).

My cousin adopted a dog a few years ago and has since spent thousands on vet bills, surgery, and medication; and still tears up their stuff/house. my pure bred lab that I bought from his BIL only cost me the purchase price, annual vet trips, and food and he lasted 13 years.

Do you enjoy traveling, visiting friends, having people over?
Dogs make doing these things a huge PITA.

I have two dogs and we entertain and travel more now that we did before owning dogs.

My adopted dog is still growing and he is already huge. At 5 months old he is already 50lbs and his hobbies include, humping pillows, eating carpet, falling down the stairs, licking my daughter's face for hours on end, shredding boxes (which sucks because we are still unpacking from a move), and helping with the laundry.

I think it's sort of like having a human child. It just changes your priorities/schedules. There would definitely be a long settling in period. For you and the dog. My dog has destroyed probably 100s of sets of blinds. Any time I go anywhere I have to find someone to watch him (almost always my Dad).

BUT it's totally worth it (to me). I can't imagine coming home to complete silence. Especially after a bad day. I also work a crazy schedule and we have a settled routine for the most part.

I kidnapped my sisters dog for the week. She's been my little buddy for the projects I've been working on. I don't want to give her back.
