People up the road put this out in the middle of the street while their kids play outside. Not on the side walk or on their property. In the middle of the road. Is that normal/appropriate?

When you let aydn play in the street you gotta strap his/her helmet and knee pads on, so putting up the sign seems like another wise layer of protection.

After you run it over, make a big production out of the damage it did to your vehicle.

Since most municipalities do not allow such obstructions in the right-of-way, it's considered a piece of abandoned trash, and you are well within your rights as a conscientious citizen to dispose of it.

Down shift and punch it

Several people in my neighborhood have these, but I've never once seen them in middle of the road. Everyone just puts them up against the curb in front of their houses when the kids are in the front yard. They barely extend past the gutter - definitely not as far as a car would if someone was parked in front of the house.

It doesn't bother me. Why would it? I'm not in the habit of driving like an idiot through residential areas.

I take extra precaution when they warn me that "slow children" are playing.

People on the other end of our cul de sac use them, but a state trooper lives down there, so I don't complain.

You spray paint him a different color. Preferably black.

There were two older versions of these that used to appear every evening. Old school neighbors outside while kids are all playing kind of thing. They situated the signs obstacle course style so you had to slow down and zigzag to get past that four house section. Some dude in a big truck took up the signs and when a Dad approached and asked, demanded the signs back, he was told that was a public street and the signs would be turned over to police as evidence. I guess no one had mentioned that to the residents! Next evening their cars were lined up in the near and far driveways so one car was almost completely blocking a lane at both ends. That brilliant move resulted in three cop cars being called almost immediately. Those 4 neighbors sold their homes and moved to Lorena and built on the circle end of a cul de sac......that's some seriously friendly neighbors!!!
