Did you get your own room or are you sitting side by side with the 99%?

Watch out for the over-zealous Transit cops. They'll toss your ass off that train in a heartbeat.

Did you have an extra month to spare? What a dumb decision.

I tried to rent an entire rail car, but they wouldn't let me, and I forgot to ask Scimi if he had any connections at Amtrak that could give me the hook up.

Current average speed is 17 mph. I'll be in Buffalo by tomorrow. Maybe.

Amtrak is an efficient means of transportation that needs to be used more as people drive less because we need to stop climate change

I'm in bidness class. This car goes the same speed as the rest of the train.

17 mph...

Trained it on Amtrak from DC to New York City once. It took 4 hours and then Penn Station was a nightmare trying to get a cab.

I liked riding the rails in Europe.

I agree, Tanya. Rail travel in Europe is the tits. In America, it's the bung hole.

1. Acela - 2 1/2 hours
2. Walk away from Penn Station and hail a cab a few blocks away

ha! Not when it takes 5 hours to get from Austin to San Antonio. They have to stop for every other train on the tracks.

I've only ridden touristy steam engines.

I do want to take a train across Canada one summer.

How did you have a hard time hailing a cab at Penn Station? Were you lugging around a dead hooker?

that's why we need more tracks. stop subsidizing Big Oil and Big Auto by paying for roads and build some infrastructure that will actually help people

What we need to do is invest in transporter technology.

Current speed, 23 mph. I feel that a derail event is imminent.

Are there speed restrictions due to heat today? That's brutal.

Europe is tiny, cars and gas are expensive, and the trains actually go places you want ot end up in that have extensive public transportation networks locally. It works there. Even with all those advantages, it gets massive government subsidies.

I am embarrassed to say I took Amtrak from Houston to Los Angeles and back once. Two fun tidbits from that trip.....on the way to L.A. we get hit by a truck near Marfa in West Texas. Took the train almost 2 miles to stop after we were hit. Had to back up to the accident scene and wait for the NTSB to come from the office in Midland to investigate. How in the hell does a truck hit a moving train especially in West Texas...you can see for miles in either direction and you still hit the train. We were on our way about 5-6 hours later. The free booze was nice but it was not a pleasant stop for the most part. The "people" making train changes in Phoenix were screwed! Then on the way back to Houston a true crazy person boards the train in L.A. He made it as far as Phoenix before he was removed as he had the whole car in an uproar as he was causing all sorts of issues. I don't think the man had seen a shower in about 2 years. Nothing like trying to sleep with your luggage on your lap and under your feet so as to protect it from the crazy man. Train travel from when I was a youth to what it was when I took this trip years ago had nothing in common. You couldn't pay me enough to try that crap again!!
