back in the day rich folks would have these as a coming of age event to tell the other rich folks that their daughters were available for courting by the other rich folks sons. at least I think that's it.

Still it. Still a pretty big deal in some East Texas and DFW/Houston circles.

Get to the North East or West Coast and they have Cotillions. Same idea
