So Mrs. Goose has taken up running and is running her first full marathon tomorrow in Nashville. Go Mrs. Goose.

In October she'll be running in the Marine Corps Marathon in DC. So that's kinda cool. But (mind you, I'm no runner or anything) do miles 17-20 look kinda hard?...

I ran MCM about 5 years ago. Nothing was too hard. Although the last half mile straight uphill. But by then you're so close it doesn't matter.

I tried running the Marine Corps marathon once but only made it to mile 4. They told me that happens to lots of guys.

Coworker sitting next to me will be running MCM this year. He is more worried about getting stuck in the bulk of the crowd than any certain part of the course.

There are some rolling hills, but the only tough part is the last uphill at the finish. Just make sure some hill work is involved in training and it should be fine.

I know this isn't exactly what you're asking but miles 17-20 are some of the toughest of the whole thing, regardless of the course (that is if you follow the average training plan - ones that give you higher volume weeks or longer LR's will make those "the wall" miles easier to handle)

I've run MCM twice: miles 17-20 aren't the hard part. The run along the National Mall is inspiring and uplifting. However, miles 20-23 - and, in particular, crossing the (seemingly) never-ending 14th Street Bridge back across the Potomac - are killer.
