We were talking about the Enron scandal and he thinks former Enron CEO and chairman Ken Lay is still alive and in hiding. I had never even heard of this conspiracy but I googled it and he's not the only one with this opinion. For those that don't know he died of a heart attack while on vacation in Colorado, around three or four months before his trial was over.

Had you guys heard of this conspiracy? My coworker is pretty liberal and of course thinks George Bush had something to do with it.

I didn't even hear of the conspiracy. As soon as I heard he died i thought to myself, "with as much money as he has he can fake his own death." I would have done the same in his shoes. Probably got some exta cash from a life insurance policy too

How about Steinbrenner(sp?) dying in the ONLY year where the Yankees could transfer tax free to the childern.

The autopsy said he died of a heart attack. One of the other conspiracy theories I read after talking to my coworker is George Bush poisoned him with an untraceable poison. I asked my lib coworker if he thought that was possible and he said "it wouldn't surprise him." Lol

yes, ronnie. i know what the autopsy says. all i know is what i've heard from a couple of people that have been around the business a long time.

Ken lay killing himself to save his estate was talked about a lot after he died. I thought the rumor was that he didn't "commit suicide" by positioning himself but that he refused meds for an existing heart condition.

His death prevented the criminal case from proceeding and, without a guilty verdict, his family was able to hold on to his estate.

At least that's what I recall reading at the time and, intentional or not, that was the end result.

The rumor is he stopped taking his heart medication and that combined with stress and the high altitude of Aspen killed him.

The government went after his wife for part of his estate, not sure whatever became of that litigation. The IRS lost in court against his estate and his wife in 2011.

My dads best friend knew Ken Lay. They were on vacation in a small town in France and saw him in a small cafe. They made eye contact, but neither said a word. A minute later Ken left some money on the table and walked off. He swears on his kids life that it was him.

Al, how much money are we talking about?

Ronnie, I will kick Ken Lay's ass in hell. He and Jeff Skillings are the main reason that my parents had to work until old age. They lost pretty much everything when the Enron thing happened.

Luckily, my parents never had to be walmart greeters or anything, but the sight of my mom at 85 still holding onto her real estate license and gathering all of her energy to go show houses... this thin wisp of a woman with paper skin. But my parents were very headstrong and had lost none of their faculties at that point. They would not accept my money/advice. And they were instilled with values from another time where you made an honest living and did not accept handouts. What was I to do?
