Mine is 4k over the rec mileage. Change it or is it ok for now? 3k seems like overkill

What kind of auto?
How many miles on the odometer?
If you've got something Japanese with less than 100k running synthetic or blend, 8-10k miles is fine between changes.

I'd change it. I go 5k on synthetic though if I went 7k I wouldn't fret too much.
Regular oil is made of dinosaurs! Synthetic is made of other stuff.
5-7K regular, 10-15K full synthetic unless you are driving it really hard.
Fun fact of the day: it's almost 100% certain that at least one molecule of water that will pass through your body today also passed through a dinosaur.
change the oil and use the good stuff - makes a much bigger difference than you might think
I change my synthetic oil just under 7k miles. 3k miles is a racket.
bmw changes it every 15,000

Hell, my service manual recommends 10k with conventional oil. I've used synthetic and changed around 10-12k for 10 years and 110k miles and never had any sort of issue.
I don't change it. It's all covered under maintenance. They won't change it under 15k between.
Just pointing out that while some people get paranoid about the mileage, some companies warranty their cars while only changing the oil every 15k

FWIW most newer vehicles can go 7K+ on regular oil without a problem.

I haven't. I honestly don't know where it is. Took it out to make room for important stuff. Like koozies
Koozies don't go in the glove box silly, that's what the center console, all 4 door pockets, and seat back pockets are for.
