My youngest brother just got accepted to A&M. The dorms are all full, so we're looking at apartments. What are the best complexes for a freshman to live in. Preferably at least somewhat close to campus, and on a bus route.

Thanks in advance!

Campus View Apartments on Harvey, they're crappy like dorms, close to campus, really quick bus ride to class/football games, and right across the street from The Cambridge, which is loaded with hot girls (or at least it was circa 2007).

The above poster had part of it right. If they are a freshman live at Cambridge. It's by far the best place and it's a dorm. Campus View shouldn't be an option at any point for anyone.

Cambridge has an awesome pool, as does the place next to the woodlands and what ever Z Islander is called these days.

But you don't have live in any of those places to use the pool.

Wait as long as you're comfortable to sign a lease off campus. I got in to A&M off the waitlist in the summer of '03 and the dorms were full. I signed up for the dorm waitlist, but got nervous so I signed a lease at what is now Reveille Ranch. Not joking... the very next day I was offered a spot in the dorms. So if you can, wait a little bit to see if something opens up.

We 'll definitely have to check out Cambridge. And, yes he needs a roommate. Looking for one of those too.

Make sure he gets a house after the first year.

Apartments suck.

Here's my $0.02 having lived off campus for my 2010 freshman year:

- I lived at the Tradition at Northgate. I smoked a lot of weed and drank a lot of beer and had the best year of my life. Rent is too high and the RA's are always sniffing out **** to try to get mad at me for. It was a thousand bucks a month with all bills and meals paid for, right next to campus. I parked in the Northgate garage. I had a private bedroom and shared a bathroom with my suitemate. Only complaint is we had a big ass entertainment center in the middle that can't be moved.

- DO NOT LIVE AT SADDLEWOOD. It is filled with "gangstas" and thugs.

One of those apartments on Cherry, Stasney or Nagle st. You will love living in an international environment. It will almost be like you are an expat living abroad.

Cambridge will give the closest thing to an on campus experience without being on campus. If he wants to do an apartment, do one of the standard student apartments (Campus village, Z Islander, etc) instead of just a conventional apartment complex.

Also Campus View is a **** hole. It's just a matter of time before that property is bulldozed and turned into retail space.

It's that bad.....

Living at Z Islander right now. Have been since I transferred in January 2012. Overall it is a nice complex. If that is a tad too expensive, I have heard great things from my friends who live at Aggie Station and a lot of my friends live in The Woodlands. There are plenty of options available in the area. It just depends on what you are going for and what fits with his lifestyle.

I lived at the woodlands for a year. It's nice but it's too high for what you get in my opinion. But I also pay my own rent so almost anything is high to me. I find 3 bedroom apartments are the best deals for some reason. Complexes just can't seem to fill them so they are discounted. I got a $600 gift card from the district when I signed my lease there and had them spread it out over my 12 month lease so I effectively pay $50 per month less than the advertised rate.

Dude, would you have taken housing advice in 2003 from someone that was a freshman at A&M in 1992?

I absolutely loved my stay at the Zone on Holleman W. It's not too far, but not too close, to campus. It has a good bus route (36 when I was there), and it's right across from a Shell station with a Wendys, Subway, Rattlers, and Liquor Mart. It's also gated, has a gym, pool, and clubhouse.

I had one roommate and paid $525 a month, with the only extra utility that needed to be paid being electricity. You get everything else including cable, internet, trash, and water bundled into the rent cost.

I couldn't chose between

Olds and their inability to spell.

or

Olds and their creating cush housing and paying for their kid's cush housing.
