Hey dummies.

What is the process for passport control when on a cruise, and is it a giant pain in the ass? An Eastern Mediterranean cruise is our backup vacation plan, so I was curious as to your collective experience.

Your going to need a vacation from planning your vacation!

I've only been on cruises thru the carribean and such and the cruise line has always scanned your passport before embarking then you don't need it again until going back thru US customs. Might be the same. IDK, call the cruise liner.

This is true. "Absent" coworker is, shockingly, absent and is signed up for vacation the same time I want to go. He said he may be able to slide. Plus, April is insane for us for lots of stupid reasons. AND I'm trying to coordinate an itinerary with little bro meeting us from the States.

Similar experience. They might issue you an id card to get on and off the boat quicker (and on boat credit) before you embark. Still bring your passport with you though, just in case you are stranded. Took us about 10 minutes for a family of 8 to go through the checkpoint. If you buy any sort of food or alcohol you will need to declare it when you get back. They give you the paperwork on the night before so that it moves smoothly.
