I was doing field work yesterday and had to key out one grass we observed and was very pleased at the diagnosis:

Poverty Dropseed - Sporobolus vaginiflorus



We had quite the giggle when we realized we were holding vagina flower.

That's not the same thing as "pygmy spears" is it?

It's been a long time, probably since 8th grade, but we used to pull these little weeds that had some pointed tips on them like a little tiny spear.

You could walk up behind someone and toss the spear into their shirt and sometimes it would poke them and they would pull it out, but if you found a baggy part of the shirt, it would just stick.

People would walk around with a dozen of those things and not know it.
