The show's on TLC right now... it's an old show as most of you know. I was just wondering... does anyone else believe this to be totally fake? Like camera trick fake and meant to fool people into thinking it's real... kinda like the Blair Witch Project?

All I know is that he is freaky!

AGBQ01 - yes, it is all fake. Either Fox or one of the cable networks did a "magic secrets revealed" series where they showed how all of those blaine tricks were done.

Why did that 8 already have a cut in it ...when he only stabbed it once?

Obviously I'd say he did this before, but w/the same exact card?

He is as talented as any other magician. They are all "tricks"

snowman, yes, I know they are tricks... but I believe his "trick" has to do with the camera not the actual magic trick, which I think is weak.

I used to be really big into magic, and have learned many kinds of various tricks. Some of his tricks I believe to be legit tricks... like the one where he handed the guy a deck of cards and told him to imagine one and imagine turning it over in the deck. Then when he opens the deck, his card has been turned over. I've actually seen this trick before in person.

But some of these tricks he performs on the show are just so ridiculously fake that it's almost insulting.

...those folks are WAY too flexible. Yuck.

Unfortunately, it's been shown that Blaine uses a LOT of camera tricks. Most of the time he starts his tricks off camera and only shows the people at home what will make the trick look the most impressive. But I will admit, he truly is amazing at sleight of hand.

I managed to catch the trick where he put the card in the girls pocket, although I haven't seen this trick revealed, I can manage a guess at how he did it.

As with most magic, the simplest answer is most often correct. As to how the card got there, it must have been there for all of the trick. Meaning, he used pickpocket skills to put that specific card in her pocket as he was passing by or had one of his assistants do it while she was distracted by the trick. That card of course was a copy, he has another one just like it already in the deck. Now he does a trick all good magicians know how to do. That is forcing a card. It's where you take a specific card that the magician chooses beforehand, and makes it appear as if the chosen person picks it at random. There are many ways of doing this, along with making sure that a card placed back into the deck moves through shuffling exactly where you want it. This is called false shuffling. Now he simply shows her her card again to "show" that it's in the deck. Through sleight of hand, makes the card "disappear", and then has the girl check her back pocket where the same card has been for the past several minutes.

This is at least how I would have done it had I been David Blaine.

If anyone has seen Ricky Jay, you have seen much better stuff. He does almost all card tricks and is amazing.

what I've heard is...the people he does the tricks on are in on them and are acting surprised. It's decent entertainment anyway you slice it. All "magic" is tricks or set-up, but if the presentation is good, its fun to watch.

I know that the people in the "levitation" trick were definitely in on it.

While I also think that most of the tricks are fakes, someone tell me how the bloody He11 he takes the head off of the chicken. I'm dying to know!
