I'd say false ... there are lots of strippers out there, and I can't imagine this crime being that wide spread.

AiT- actually, it is very widespread, sadly. there are plenty of women who have been raped or molested and don't strip.

my guess as far as the stats would be that 90% is way too high and brought up as hyperbole. i'm sure that strippers have experienced a higher percentage of rape and sexual abuse than the avg. population, but not that high

An old friend of mine was once married to a woman who worked as a "hostess" at a gentleman's club in Houston.

The first time I ever met her, she was doing yard work in the front yard of her home with absolutely nothing on but a towel wrapped around her.

She's now a lawyer. I don't know if she gave up working at the gentleman's club, too.

There does seem to be an above-average number of women who are Tech dropouts (or claim to be Tech droputs) who strip for a job.

I have no doubt there are women who strip who have been abused as children (know a few myself), but seriously doubt it is more common for women who work in that industry to have been abused as children than in any other industry. I think it is very difficult to find any women, especially attractive women, who have not been sexually abused or assaulted at one time or another in their lifetime.
I think the true number would shock people.

That research sounds pretty fishy. Huge percentages of women having very specific mental disorders? I doubt it. I do agree that strippers likely have been molested more than the average female population though.

One thing that is important to point out though is that research shows that the percentage of women molested by their fathers is actually very small (it does happen but it is rare). Most that were molested had it happen from a step father, uncle, "Mom's live in boyfriend", or other relative besides their blood father. There is a proven link that men rarely will molest their own daughters. The likelihood of a girl that was brought up in a household where mom had a lot of different boyfriends who lived there occasionally though is frightening.

I had one women who worked as a stripper tell me that after you are molested, you begin to think that is all men view you as, as this object to be used, and you think it is all you are good for. She had been molested by her uncle.

It's almost impossible to get reliable statistics on rape and sexual assault victims. Many women never tell a soul and even more never press charges.

Many victims of abuse try to separate themselves from the act while it is being performed Thus the mutliple personality problems
