almost bought a fedora this winter...getting too warm so guess I'll wait for the autumn

I work with an older guy (mid 60's) that wears a flat brim western hat every day to/from work. I thought it was kind of odd at first, but now it's strange to see him without it.

And I put on a hard hat almost everyday, if that counts.

I wish women's hats would come back in style. There are days I would love to have to dress up more.

Yeah I would wear a hat too, I usually have a hat of some kind for halloween I like them.

I wish they would as well, and I never wear hats of any kind.

JFK assassinated the hat before he was knocked off himself. Read an article about it and I remember talking about it with my family some too. Wearing hats was always a way for you to show maturity/respect (respectable worker, tip your hat to a lady, status, etc...). JFK was the first cool president who never wore hats, and it became the cool thing to do. Fedoras and business hats began to fall out of style after his presidency or so I've heard.

Well, he played a big role, but what really killed hats was being able to easily wash your hair every day. The hat's main purpose was to keep the hair clean longer.

Such hats are a waste of time and money. Find another way to deal with your receding hairline.

I have a fantastic Dobbs 5th Avenue hat made in 1945. I would wear it more often if it weren't brown. I do not have a lot of brown clothing with which it will coordinate.

This makes sense, but I think hair styles and styling products factors in too. Back in the day, men wore a ton of hair wax, pomade or grease in their hair, so that once you took your hat off all you had to do was run a comb through it and it's back in place. Now, with all the products out there designed to keep your hair in one position all day, you get the never-popular "hat hair". So until hair styles change again, I don't see hats coming back anytime soon.
