So my roommate had a few friends visiting this past week and one of them started talking about how my friend and his gf would make awesome Toe Head babies. I have never heard this. Is this referring to the fact that they ar both blonde? Is it considered a distasteful remark? Thanks for the help!

It means blonde hair babies. I don't think there is anything derogatory about it. My grandma always said my sister and I were toe headed babies.
No, it's not distasteful or rude. It just means blond (usually natural and light shade of blond). "Tow" is another word for flax. Hence "towheaded."

People used to call son #3 a toe head. My husband had never heard it before and got upset! Thought he was going to punch the guy until I explained it just meant VERY blonde!
I've heard it my whole life. Now that I think about it, it's almost always used in reference to children.
It's been around for ages...but as others have said, the spelling is "tow".

Wow, I can't believe that error wasn't pointed out by someone else already on this thread!
All of my sons are towheaded. I heard it all the time in Northeast Texas. Then again, the same folks who said "towheaded" also called the trunk of a car, "the turtle".

the hood of the car is called a bonnet.
towhead is common term in the south, not as sure about the rest of the country.
How have you people never heard that term before? I thought it was a pretty common term.

Does anyone not think this is strange? I would never in a million years talk about my gf making babies w/ another dude--even indirectly as part of a joke.
my Dad was referred to as towhead or cotton top growing up...he hated both. When kids heard adults call him cotton top it became cotton tail and he learned to fight about seven years old!

Nah. My grandparents used that term for a certain type of nut usually found in a bag of mixed nuts bought from one of our school fundraisers.
