Well, at MY bar, we have a card game we play but we were just told that instead of having our dollars out on the table (which we did for years even though it's pretty blatantly breaking the rules) we have to hide the money and play with chips instead so that it looks like we're JUST playing cards and not playing for monies. That have always sufficed with TABC.

Texas hold em is played at our wine bar every tuesday night, and the tabc have given approval as long as the house doesn't take any money from the pot. That restaurant was probably just being conservative.
